How do you get rid of a dog's separation anxiety? We have a new pup and we have tried to leave him in a box for the night but his whining caused the neighbours to actually phone the police because they thought we were abusing the dog and they've warned us that we can't do that and if they are called again we will have the dog taken from us and face punishment, but how the fuck can we fix this?

Tell your neighbors to suck on your meaty cock. Your decision on how to get your dog to behave isnt up to them. Some dogs don't like crates. Could you confine him to a room instead? Make sure he has some place to sleep.

Record yourself sitting on your couch and occasionally calling dog's name. Play on loop while gone. Works for us.

Anyone here owned a disabled pet? How is it? I've had a few chances to adopt a deaf dog or FIV+ cat in the past myself but never did.

Define disabled.

I have a dog with dysplasia in every leg and a non-functional pancreas.

Let's talk about popular pets and the flaws or difficulties that casuals and newbies don't know about them.

Everyone seems to think all small dogs are apartment friendly. That's not true. Corgis are very popular but they're a herding breed so they need a lot of exercise. Likewise, Beagles are very stubborj and are extremely loud. Yorkies and most other terriers have a high prey drive, are energetic, and love to dig. Pugs are cute but they have a lot of health problems due to their muzzle size and squashed eyes. Shiba Inu are very stubborn and aloof. People should research their breeds instead of getting something because they're cute.

Likewise, budgies need more work than just feeding them every two days and changing their water once a week. They need a lot of interaction and are not meant to be inside cages 24/7. They also work best in at least pairs.

Siamese fighting fish (bettas) have a big personality in a little body. This isn't a flaw but I just wanted to say that newbies don't understand that these fish need several gallons in their tank, they shouldn't be housed in a vase or bowl. So many people get it wrong that it's cringeworthy.

That goes for all fish: the more gallons, the better
>>
>>2233491
I always thought fish had no personality until I met my friend's! Her goldfish tries to cuddle with her catfish and the catfish will sometimes swat him away with its paw. Most of her fish also rush to the top of their tanks when they see her (probably because they associate her with food but it's still cute)

The space requirements for small mammals are always heavily underestimated. Bunnies for instance should really have at least a 4 sqm pen available to always have enough space to hop around. Keeping them in a cage and only letting them out for limited amounts of time is not a solution.

Their diets are also often awful. The pet store pellets and stuff are equivalent to junk food for humans. They will fatten up the animals and can cause teeth/organ issues.

What are some extinct animals you want to see brought back?

Everyone wants species like mammoths but I don't agree. They seem too large for our modern environments. They would change the ecosystem massively. I'd rather have low key animals like extinct dogs brought back.

/an/ has become my main board. It feels good to know other people have a similar interest about the wilderness as I do. However, something I don't see often is how well you know about your own wilderness.

How much does a regular /an/imal know about their local wildlife, habitats, ecology? I'll post mine if you dare, however, I'd like to here other people first. You can include flora, fauna, habitats, species, paleo ecology, and anything that can explain how much you know!

Southeast va here. I take great interest in the local wildlife. Love to observe different insects, spiders, and small fauna (herps, fish, birbs). I learn the common names for most species and use my Audubon field guides to identify read up on things frequently.

That said I know next to nothing about native plants/trees and most of what I do know is anecdotal, have never gone mich deeper than just identification and observation. Never really studied the science or ecology side of it.

I draw the ecological designs for my areas wildlife/forestry projects.

it's mostly just a logical placement of natural barriers (like dead hedges, raised hugelkultures, hedge laying) in combination with ditches and roads/pathways.

How big does a cage need to be for a big dog? I've had my great dane in one like pic related and he's getting pretty big, but i dont think he needs a new one. He's in there for about half the day so he's getting pretty used to it. Also, how hard is it to house train dogs?

1. chickens are already dinosaurs, all birds are.
2. the "dormant" genes he wants to turn on don't exist anymore. Like other useless organs in biology, they went away.
3. it's a nice idea, but he's going to have to add genes, not just activate existing ones.
4. He's already succeeded in his quest, the idea alone has gotten more attention from the general public than has the last 20 years of real dinosaur paleontology. Getting attention is more profitable than making raptor chickens.
>>
>>2233127
>the "dormant" genes he wants to turn on don't exist anymore
you are not entirely right there, the "experiment" where you mix rodent sequences into the genes of the chicken to make it grow molars is not necessary

you can induce the forming of teeth like structures as well as a broader 'snout like' beak by blocking certain proteins that otherwise block the formation of said structures.

I could explain it in detail, but I don't want to, maybe you can find something via google
