It DOES work, you just have to be patient and have more willpower than your cat. You CAN wait him out. Eventually he will stop, whether it's minutes or hours.

And yeah, it may take a LONG time for your cat to shut up. Just remember that every time you engage with him when he's yowling, you've just made it harder for you next time because he learns that he just has to screech for long enough and loud enough.

The only real developmental issue associated with spays, regardless of age, is an increased risk of obesity, which is easy enough to prevent. There is some evidence of other issues, but generally speaking your dog will not suffer for being spayed at 6 months. Don't forget, shelter animals are commonly spayed as early as 3 months, with no ill effect.

Because I don't have over a grand in savings or property, and already have a mutt that's just fine.

I want a king shepherd or German shepherd eventually though, and my fiance wants a borgi. We're just waiting until we have our own place (property) and enough money to ensure the breeding is done properly.

Orijen is a great food, one of the best. I'd say it's better than Taste of the Wild, personally. That isn't to say Taste of the Wild is bad, it's just a tier below top-tier.

And yeah, Orijen will be more expensive. If you can afford it though, I don't see why not to feed your pupper Orijen.

As for how slow to make the switch, for going from shit-tier food to top-tier, high protein food, you might want to take 2 weeks to do it just because it's such a big change and your dog's digestive system isn't used to all that digestible protein.

Acana is also another top-tier food, and it's a bit less expensive than Orijen I believe. Still pretty expensive though (costs more that Taste of the Wild.)

As for the flavor, some dogs have allergies so the alternate flavors (different meat sources) can be necessary for them. Other than that though, it doesn't really matter, it just comes down to preference.

I agree, it's the only thing I wouldn't mind if it would vanish.
