Is it worth shelling out the money to get a DNA test done on my dog?

I've been curious as to what he is (I suspect a lab mixed with some sort of hound), but a lot of the DNA tests that I've researched are hit and miss.

They are really cute and fun. I got one done for this dude, and turns out he is a AmStaff/Golden/Bassett mix. I knew hevhad Bassett, but the Golden was out of left field, and the AmStaff was a little surprising.

They won't change how much you love your dog. I am happy with the results i got from this one, and will probably get one for my other mutt.

If it's a genetic dicease test then sure.

My cat has fought with a stray cat on the street and hair on his tail is stripped off. How long does it takes hair to grow back? Or will it ever grow back?

If I rip out your hair will it grow back? Does hair continually grow?

Also, fix your cat, it shouldn't be going outside to fight others.
>>
Your cat should bear the marks of his hard street life, and you should be proud of him. Pussies go into heat instantly when they see a cat with a scar.

My cat keeps jumping onto my second floor banister. So far, nothing has happened, but I'm always afraid he's going to fall and hurt himself (it's a pretty good drop to the first floor), especially since he'll usually run really fast and jump up onto it.
Is there any way to stop him from doing it? Or am I just being paranoid?

>>
>>2240283
throw him off from half way point up the stairs. that way he knows falling will hurt and won't try doing risky shit
>>
That looks like a safe fall for an adult cat.
I suppose you can prevent a hard fall by placing one of those fur/very fluffy rugs underneath the general area.
Another option would be using decorations to cover the banister/access.
>>
>>2240283
What's the floor covering there and what breed is your cat (weight/fur length)?

is it possible to train an animal to carry out vengeance for me?

No. Not a dog at least. Dogs can't understand the concept of vengeance. Maybe an elephant or an ape.

But it happened in a Sherlock Holmes novel

Oh sorry, then of course it must be true.

What novel by the way? The hound of Baskervilles? That was just a dog trained to find and attack a person.

Is it possible to raise a dog so it doesnt stop every three meters to sniff some other dogs piss?

I never owned a dog, but I sometimes walk my sisters terrier. I live in the city and its awful. That little piss fetish asshole just keeps on stopping all the time.

I'm aware that its most likely too late for this one, but I'm just wondering.

Let him sniff. That is how he knows whats up with the area. It is like twitter for dogs. Unless he is sniffing trash, poo or something bad then teach him leave it.
Get some small chunks of chicken, hot dog or whatevs the dog really likes. Every time he sniffs something he shouldn't pull out the treat as soon as he stops sniffing it say leave it and have him come get the treat. Praise then repeat.
>>
>>2240154
Pretty much this.

It is fun for the doggo. Let him sniff and have a fun time. Walkies are supposed to be fun fun times.

That being said, if he digs in at a spot and wants to spend all day there, give them a happy "Let's go!" and just tug him along. He will eventually learn "let's go" means "oh shit time to keep moving or anon eill make me move".

Cases have been made from almost everything over the years.
If you get heavily into it, it would probably be more cost effective to build your own.
If you want pic related, you could re-purpose whatever glass you can find from old picture frames and such, build boxes with a cheap mitre saw and window trim from the local home improvement store.
>>
You don't want to into this, it's full of toxoplasmosis

Kek. I remember trying this when I was a kid and I feel so fucking bad about it now. Especially because they would eventually fall apart because of my lack of Professionalism. I'll never forget that beautiful butterfly I caught just to fucking pin it to a block of foam. It fell apart.

What a waste of life.

>Play tug of war with dog
>Let him win
>Fucks off and chews on the toy
>Play fetch with doggo
>Toss ball
>Sometimes he sniffs around gives zero fucks about the ball
>Other times, runs off at a million miles after it
>Gets ball
>Fucks off away from me to chew on the ball

Is it possible to fix him and make him want to play games?
8 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
"Games" should only be used to reward behavior you want to increase, so never play a game when your dog is doing bad behaviors.

Tug of war won't get better. Fucking off and chewing on the toy is the end of the game.

However, fetch does get better. Teach your doggo the "come" command, and command him to come after you throw the ball and he goes to get it. Then reward with treats if food motivated, or praise if otherwise motivated. Repeat often and daily, only after your doggo is doing desirable behaviors.
>>
>>2239970
Noted on tug.

Chewing on the tennis ball is too rewarding. He doesn't give two fucks about food or praise, so getting him to "come" after retrieving would be hard. All he wants to do is chew on the toy.

Any suggestions? The only thing I can think of is a higher value treat?
>>
>>2239973
>He doesn't give two fucks about food or praise once he has the ball in his mouth and starts chewinf on it
Fixed for clarity. He is quite food motivated, but he has this obsession with chewing on his toys. He never plays with them... just fucks off and chews.

Hi, what's wrong with my dogs ears? I have another dog who likes to lick her ears. She seems perfectly healthy otherwise, though she does have a sister who has bad allergies.

Why don't you just take it to your vet?
>>
>>2239868
Chronic infection. No lie.
Either you take your dog to the vet or wait til it gets inflamed enough that it's painful and starts making her angry, you'll see a mean side of her that you've never seen.
Either way, you're going to the vet.
At the vet, they'll possibly do a culture, a flush, and an overall exam. You'll leave about $300-600 poorer, and still have to come back for another few appointments that'll each be about $70-200 depending on how well you follow instructions and how much your other dogs lick her ear or how much she scratches or shakes it.

Have fun, OP. You're spending minimum $300 on this.

>>2239872

does anybody know what caused this?
>>
what kind of fish was it
what were your tank parameters
did you introduce anything new into the tank that may of given it a spike in ph or ammonia
Did your water temp rapidly change without you noticing is your heater if needed still working?
The white stuff could be ich which is generally brought out by stress from some area of husbandry being inadequately met
>>
>>2239673
Its a betta
zero nitrate
No he was by himself and no to the ph or ammonia

The heater is still working and there was never really any temperature changes desu

Is there something wrong with my PAC man frog? And how many days should I wait before feedings?
6 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
>>2239617
Feed every other day.
You can do daily since its a juvenile.
Pacmans have issues eating slugs and worms sometimes because they don't "stick" to their tongues and they can't pull them in.
Mice should be fed to them sparingly or not at all.
Goldfish are a better source of protein without all the fat.
Nightcrawlers are also good.

There's a lot of debate of course.
Some people claim goldfish are unhealthy because of disease/parasites.
Some claim mealworms/superworms can chew their way out of the stomach.
>>
>>2239652
>Some claim mealworms/superworms can chew their way out of the stomach.

False. I'm not sure when that rumor started but i suspect it had to do with a mealworm or super biting a herp from the OUTSIDE. Which they will if let loose inside the tank and not collected after feeding time.

Digestive system environment is very quick death for worms even if they were swallowed whole. The idea that they could survive long enough to actually penetrate the stomach lining is completely absurd.
>>
>>2239668
Thanks I've been feeding super worms but let a bunch loose in the tank, whenever I see them I catch them and drop them in front where he will eat prettty quickly. She seems completely uninterested in crickets though and will let them crawl all over her face

How in the hell are human beings capable of eating so much?

Seriously. We can eat SO MANY THINGS. Things that we didn't even fucking evolve around can be more nutritious and beneficial to us than the things we did evolve around. We can eat animals from COMPLETELY DIFFERENT ECOSYSTEMS to ourselves; ecosystems we didn't even fucking interact with until we were fully evolved. We can eat shit from the middle of the fucking ocean. We can eat huge numbers of plants and fungus... How is our stomach so adaptable? Most other animals can only survive and thrive on a very narrow, environment-specific diet. Not humans.

I mean, yes, there are PLENTY of things we cannot eat, and i may be falling victim to confirmation bias (i.e. we don't think of things we can't eat as food, despite other animals potentially being able to eat them) but as a species we probably have the most diverse diets, not just due to our ability to access them, but our built in ability to naturally absorb these foods.

>>2239615
Give me one reason why we WOULDN'T be able to eat a fish, bird or whatever. You're wording it as if you think things from different areas of the planet are made of entirely different and indigestible elements and substances, and you're also suggesting that humans have ever been restricted to one area/diet. Very bizarre question.
