At one point in the earth's history plants were basically the only thing on the planet that would be considered life minus microscopic organisms.

Do you think it's possible any animals originated from plants? Like the predator plants we see today. Maybe one plant, at some time, evolved to eat other plants.

One of the evolved predator plants had a detachable part that went and ate the other plants and that's how life started as we know it.

Im thinking something like a venue fly trap that used to stretch its mouth or whatever and would eat other plants. Eventually it evolved to where it could move around detached from its roots. Like a little plant monster.

I mean no one really knows 100%. It is all theory. I could be on to something.

Wrong, you'd be surprised how late plants developed (especially terrestrial plants)

>Do you think it's possible any animals originated from plants?
I can only guess your age, but you really need to watch less cartoons m8. Plants and animals are fundamentally different things on so many biological levels.

Venus Flytraps are also a relatively-recent thing in evolutionary terms - you can read up how they evolved if you want, just get the moronic 'animal' idea out of your head.

Are you some kind of retard?
>>
It hasn't happened before, but in the future there probably will be plants that develop more animal-like traits. Pic related is the Walking Palm. It doesn't pull it's roots to literally walk around but it can move 20cm along the ground every year. Maybe one day it will adapt to somehow detach it's oldest roots from itself as it lays down new ones and locomote large distances that way, just on a very slow time scale.

my cat recently had to have his back leg amputated. I've been giving him his pain and antibiotic meds twice a day on time and its been around 5 days. The vet said that there might be some leakage but today I saw some pus and I was wondering if I should call my vet or if its normal?

What is wrong with you?
>>
>>2260973
What does it smell like? If it stinks, prolly best to take to vet. It may just be part of the healing process, pus looking stuff formed in some surgery incisions I had, forgot what it was called but it was totally normal and part of the process.

Either way I'd probably call the vet to make sure, maybe book an appointment pending on what they say in the phone call.

its been 5 days and he's already trying to run around and play like normal, he's still starting fights with my bigger cat and jumping on shit, losing the leg didnt change shit about him besides him wanting me to scratch his head more. Im not putting down my cat if I can help it even if I have to go a little light on spending for a month or two

Retards who can't distinguish regular vs. pathological/aggressive social behavior in animals shouldn't have pets.

Purebreed owners get super pretentious about their dogs.

And then on the other side of the spectrum are those owners who think their aggressive dog is "just playing!!!! He's friendly :)"

I'd prefer not to read 50 posts about how climate change is a hoax or that it is better to invest on bussiness at every cost, if I'd wanted a single search for Trump's declarations would be enough.
I just legitly ask this question because I'm kinda concerned about this issue. And since /sci/ isn't about Nature Sciences/Conservation I thought this was place to ask.

Hey /an/, I found a wounded bird today.

Honestly, I never thought I would be somebody who would post in /an/ asking for bird advice. I've seen multiple threads of people saying "help, I founded a wounded animal" so and so and I never really payed attention. What should I had done to the bird?

My landlord said he'd take it to somebody he knew who could help it, but should I had just taken in the bird and waited to see if it'd get better? It had a head injury like pic related and was heavily breathing.

pic related, but not the bird I found

Part of me didn't want to help the bird because I remember seeing in those "help wounded animal threads" that people say those animals such as small birds usually die throughout the night. I still got a towel and a shoebox for it because I felt bad and felt like I should've done something. Thankfully my landlord took it and is gonna see if a vet hospital will take care of it.

Which I honestly don't know if vet hospitals even care to help an animal that small. So maybe it was a wasted trip on his part.

So what should I do next time I encounter a wounded bird?

Who's the most radical animal rights activist who's ever gotten into power?
14 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
>>2260391
none. you could ask which people in power had regard for certain animals.

hitler liked dogs. ancient egyptians worshiped cats.

Im sure there are more examples like that. but full blow tree hugging environmentalists? haha you wish
"power" ultimately comes from the masses, which are homo sapiens. so yeah, fuck everything but homo sapiens.

the only reason politicians nowadays are more friendly towards the environment is because more and more people are realizing that humans actually need the fucking environment to be happy and function

in nature do animals just let pee drip a little bit at a time over the course of the day or do they go from full to empty like we do?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>

Most mammals have bladders. Bladders are small to large sacs that contain a certain amount of urine and once the electricity is stretched too much the animal feels pressure and an urge to urinate. Once the animal starts urinating they generally urinate until the pressure has subsided to an almost empty level.
>>
Pardon my Google voice, the word is *elasticity, not electricity.
>>
>>2260302
but you know that feeling when you'd be able to pee but it's not urgent enough where you will go to the toilet.
also known as that moment when you're leaving the house and figure "might as well pee even though I don't need to go but it'll be a while since I reach a toilet" feeling.
would a wild animal just let it go as soon as he felt that possibility of urinating or would he wait until he "has to go"?

When my dog died it was a massive blow. I was already suffering from severe depression but losing him was the last straw. I was catatonic for days, I didn't want to eat or drink.

I'm so sorry this has happened OP. My sincere condolences. Know that you made each others lives better for having met. How did it happen?

I'm really sorry man. When my dog died earlier this year I was destroyed. I loved her so much, I wish I had taken more pictures of her but I never thought about her death. I didn't eat or sleep well and wouldn't talk to anyone for a month. It's hard. Are there any other puppies to survive them?

Dinos were too big for the ark.
>>
>>2259382
Mass extinction killed most life on earth, except for the few that were small enough to hide and/or required a lot less food.

Avian dinosaurs were likely the ones that survived because there originally tiny and perhaps could fly, giving them range to search for food without wasting too much energy ion comparison to walking. Thus all modern dinosaurs are birds that have avian traits, even when they traded their ability to fly (like ostriches or penguins)

Hi! I'm writing a Star Trek Next Gen fan fic and in the story Wesley buys a plant called the (Some alien world name here) Milker Plant. It's a plant with flexible stalks at the end of which are long tubes that, on their native world, latch onto passing female herbivores (alien cows) and milk their teats for nutrients. Like a pitcher plant that sucks like a mouth.
Wesley is going to use this for a different purpose.
Problem is, I can't figure out how to make a legit plant name for it in the traditional Linnaeus style, to add that extra bit of authenticity.

Anybody have an idea? I need something like "Nepenthes ventricosa" that sounds real.

Sup /an/, decided to buy 6x12x6 inch, 1.5 gallon tank for my betta (seen in pic), it has some decent reviews on amazon. I will also be buying a small filter which is supposedly compatible. Using triops as tankmates and I plan breed them, the tank comes with dividers so I could separate the baby triops from the betta. Torpedo beach sand will be the substrate.

Does this sound like a good setup?

P.S: I might grow some flora if I get a Led.

>>
>>2258511
I can't tell if you're trying to troll, or just don't know shit about proper husbandry.

Betas require a MINIMUM of 3 gallons, with 5 gallons still being a horribly small tank. A regular ten gallon tank would be much better and easier to do partial water changes and keep the tank at a proper temperature.

They also really aren't that expensive, and the filter you're getting will probably work fine in it. Plants are usually good as well.

Google 'caresheet' for each species and plant you want to put in the tank.
>>
>>2258517
Thanks! I've heard so many conflicting things on betta care, but one more thing /an/on. I live in the tropics and it's pretty warm here, should I still buy a heater?
>>
>>2258526
Not that anon but you should definitely have a thermometer anyway. Set your tank up (preferably 10 gallons like anon said) and let it sit for a couple days, monitor the temperature. If it stays in the favorable range (mid 70's, low 80's iirc in Fahrenheit) then I'd say it's fine, but if your house is air conditioned you probably want a heater anyway because I highly doubt your house is going to be warm enough to maintain a constant temp. Constant temps are important, fish don't like it very much if it's constantly fluctuating all over the place.
