We got a kitten a few months ago (it has nowhere else to go so we took it in), and it's settled in with our 2 dogs perfectly but we have another cat, a lot older and they just will not get on, I know it's his territory and all that but what can I do to help them get on, I feel bad for the kitten because whenever he sees him he just wants to play

Kill one of both of the cats and stop taking in random pests. Problem solved.

What the fuck
>>2279898
>being this new
Go back to /b/ catfag.
My day can't get much worse.
I found this bird in my room with my cat. The bird doesn't seem to be hurt, but it's too young and I'm feeling responsible for it.
What can I do? Should I feed it for the next weeks? And if so, what can I feed it?
>>2279876
Put the bird back outside.
Feed the cat Tylenol.
>Actually putting it back outside is for the best, and remember to not let your cat out unsupervised. Today the cat got a bird, tomorrow a car may get the cat:(
>>2279876
>too lazy to keep cat indoors
>pretend to feel bad because you saw one of the many birds your cat has tortured and killed
The bird is dead. The only chance it has is if you take it to a wildlife rehabilitation place, and even then its chances extremely slim.
You knew your cat was a predator when you let it outside; why are you surprised that it is killing/torturing birds? Be responsible and take care of your pet you fucking idiot.
God, I will never get over how unintelligent cat owners are.
>>2279876
Oh, and
>bird doesn't appear hurt
It is. If it got one tiny scratch or bite its dead. Fucking idiot.
hi /an/ i have a probably dumb question
is adopting purebred dogs/cats unethical? like when instead of adopting a random dog in need at the kennel, you buy a "designer" dog from a breeder. is it weird the idea makes me feel bad? (i'm just asking on a hypotethical level, i don't want to adopt a dog right now)
>>2279853
Don't buy accessories (pugs, chihuahuas, etc.) or compensators (pitbulls, doberman, etc.)
just save the ones that need saving
>>2279853
Buying from a reputable breeder isn't unethical. 99% of people breeding designer mixes (doodles etc) are BYBs or puppy mills who want to make money. What breeds are you interested in?
>>2279856
i'm not interested in designer mixers. borzois, bull terriers, and greyhounds are my favorite kind of dogs. i've fantasized about getting a retired greyhound in the future but i don't know how i feel about supporting the racing industry.
i like all oriental cats, especially foreign white. i don't care about the breed tho, i just really like the long faces so even a stray cat with a long face would be fine. sorry about the blog post
Ok, here's the deal /an/. We got bedbugs. Im not sure fucking how, but we got them. We had terminex come in and spray for them several times over the course of months. Guess what? It didnt work. They even tore up the walls and shot holes through the remaining walls to kill them. Didnt work. I now have a 1k bill i have to pay them, and still have fucking bedbugs. We dont have any extra money to have someone else come spray, were poor as hell and we have two kids. Now, please help me with advice to get rid of these fuckers that isnt just, oh have a professional come spray your house bc like i said, we dont have the money. Please help /an/.
Oh geez.
My condolences, I've heard the horror stories.

Either borrow a heater and get your home over 115F or open all the windows and let everything get well below freezing. Whichever is more feasible in your climate.
What's /an/ overall opinion on ferrets?
If you want a kitten that never grows up, can't be reliably litter trained and smells like shit then sure, they're great.
kind of like less horrible cats, i guess
i wouldn't want one
Never have one, but they seem like dumber cats.
Hella cute tough.
I don't get it. Every time I see Africans or African wildlife or Africa on here people seem to talk so negatively about the natives and their relations to fauna.
But ancient Europeans killed every single example of megafauna and even insular giants.
Giant elk, water buffalo, dwarf and large elephants and hippos, giant cranes, giant tortoises, etc... thousands of years ago.
Same with Asia and Australia and the Americas. Africa is the sole remaining region in the world with megafauna to the extent of them being quite commonplace. This is likely due to extremely long histories of adaption to hominid behavior and a general disgust of wild animal foods outside of rainforests.
But isn't it biased to see African poor hunting elephant and rhino? I mean they are still there, it's not as if Europeans weren't encouraging ivory hunting for centuries and rinderpest being brought in by them forcing hunting.
So what gives /an/?
>>2279728
it's not biased because Ivory was a luxury good for Europeans that were used to make goods that last (jewelry) while chinks harvest ivory to snort for shaman-boner pills
>>2279730
But the results are the same. Dead animals.
Also Chinese do in fact make many things from ivory. Quite ornate and intricate too.
That's because like in many other places, but especially africa, overpopulation of humans is eating up space for wildlife more and more every year.
Hi /an/ Its been awhile scince ive posted here. Anyway to get to the point i set up a 55 gallon on saturday and moved all of my fish into the tank.
Now i used "quick start" by api so i thaught i wouldnt have to cycle the tank. I used water conditioner aswell. In the aquarium i used old sand that was in both of the previous aquairums and also the old decor. I used the old filter aswell until i can get a larger filter ( the current one is rated for 40. I let it sit and run for about 30 minutes before adding the fish. Now onto where youre going to think this is serious b8 and it isnt. I have three goldfish. And also some tetras and such. I found that if you keep them at 74 degrees all the fish can live happily. Well long story short i messed up.The goldfish are showing serious signs of "new tank syndrome". I keep doing amonia tests and water changes but the shit wont go down ive changed about 15 gallons of water so far. Nothings working please help me.
On another note i also cannot get rid of the goldfish.Ive tried and nobody would take them. Im trying to give them the best life i can until i get my own place and get a pond so please just tell me how to get the amonia down.

I've spent years telling /aq/ that the bacteria in a bottle doesn't do anything.
anyways, you're going to be doing a fish-in cycle now. I would recommend monitoring ammonia daily, changing 25% water ever time the fish show distress, and dosing water treatment that removes ammonia and nitrite.
I use amquel plus in my saltwater tanks for that kind of situation. I think Prime does the same work.
>>2279701
Thank you anon.
I literally cannot thank you enough.
So 25% water change daily With a conditioner?
>>2279702
I reread what you said ill make my way to the pet store tomorrow for the amonia stuff

Is there a type of litter with large pieces? Or something i can use as litter? Looking for pieces bigger than carefresh. Cant find anything on google.
>>2279555
Have you tried using dried rice? Works great from me, and I still eat the rice at the bottom!
There's a little called Yesterday's News that's made out of recycled newspaper pellets. Those are large and are recommended for kitties who have had surgeries due to the lowered infection rate.
*litter .. typo

Where do I find puppies, and how can I be sure that I'm not supporting a puppy mill?
>>2279391
A reputable breeder or a non-profit organization. Alternatively, you can go hard mode and find a stray puppy on the streets
>>2279394
Where can I find those?
>>2279405
google. hopefully you aren't too dumb to take car of the puppies
do you like horses?

Bring up your outside cat, see how that works out.
i found one of them in my room... i won't kill him... i never kill bugs,animals,etc... every time i find a cockroach i take him to the outdoor... but i won't leave this one in the outdoor because he will hurt a dog,cat or a kid... where should i let him?
He's in a jar right now.
Flush it

"don't talk to me or my son ever again"
So i noticed that there aren't really that many threads explaining how to get into the hobby of domestication. I have lurked here a couple weeks (im originally from /k/) and i still haven't decided on which new being i will call my m8 or m8s. I live in an apartment complex so larger animals are off limits. I do not wish to own a dog or cat due to their size. I would like a freind that is low maintenance, but that involves micro-management. I have been looking at fish, but they are problematic for when i have to leave for work. So far, invertibres have been what i have been looking into. I would like ab animal that will allow me to have company, but also enrich my knowledge in their field.
Tldr; which pets will allow me to micromanage them, but will allow me to learn something and to leave for a couple days.
Also, helping the uninitiated thread.
Inverts are great low-maintenance pets, and if you've never really had animals before then they can be pretty educational. Just don't expect them to provide any company - they can be nice to handle every now and then, but you can't exactly sit and have a chat with one.
>>2279073
>Implying you can have a chat with your dog without looking crazy or like a 40 year old housewife.
>>2279074
Yeah... it was a joke. A lighthearted little joke.
I intended to get a tarantula as a pet. I don't know what species is best for me. I hear the Rose Hairs and Pink Toes are good choices.
>>2278941
If you want to handle it often I would recommend a rose hair but if you don't plan on handling too much but still want a beginner Tarantula then I would recommend a Mexican Red Knee
Get ready to itch all the time when that rose hair gets you with its ass hairs.
