Thinking of getting an older rottie as my first dog. Anyone know anything about the breed besides the obvious?
>Rottweiler
>as a first dog
>no experience
In two years time I plan to get a rottie too OP, but as a puppy and will be putting it in a schultzhund program.
From what I read about rotties, they're a VERY dominant dog breed, long line of working animals from Germany. Very loyal and powerful breed.
Not recommended for a first time owner. They require a lot of training.

I've been volunteering at the animal shelter to get used to general dog maintenance. I'm dealing with a variety of breeds, but just wanted any info from people that may have had one before.

I'm not opposed to training, I can seek out professional training too. I'm reading into the schultzhund program right now since you mentioned it. It's very cool
HELP. I'm dog-sitting for my friends dog and it keeps growling and barking at me. It's in its crate but I'm afraid to let it out or get close. I met the dog before and when the owner was here she was fine with me. I need to let it out to pee asap. Pls help!!
Someone. This poor pup needs to go out to pee
When will your friend return?

True you can't look it up online
I don't trust those bumps on the stem.
Looks like an amanita cousin, fuck those
Regale me with tales of or just plain facts about the most poisonous/venomous animals.
I don't know why but I had a strange fascination with these sorts of animals.

I remember reading something about a guy who stepped on one of these sneaky bastards and he begged the doctors to amputate his leg because the pain was so fucking brutal
>>2362864
Well anon most of them come from Australia, including that stone fish.

What about plants? Dendrocnide moroides (common names include Gympie-Gympie and Suicide Plant) has an incredibly painful toxin. Apparently the pain can persist for weeks, even years and has driven people to madness.
There's a rumor a person shot himself after using it as toilet paper rather than suffer the agony.

The fuck is this insect?
are you a martian or what
>>2362835
No, it's the hind legs. Why the fuck are its hind legs like that?
>>2362833
It's a crane fly
This lizard is really fat
That is not a lizard
>>2362770
monitors are lizards, yes
>>2362778
this guy is more monitor than lizard, that anon has a point
>road tripping around the country with my dog
>every motel that claims to be "pet friendly" has an exception for cats
>except one that was so filthy i ended up sleeping in my car instead
what's it like having a pet that's too dirty to travel with?
>>2362724
Why do dog lovers talk about cats so much?
>>2362725
They feel inferior because they know their mutts are disgusting, don't clean themselves and eat their own shit and vomit and others shit and vomit, love to roll around in said filth, yet humans are so narcissistic they'll claim dogs are the best because dogs literally exist to feed a humans ego
Cats are celebrated and worshipped as godlike beings in more cultured places than America, as well as the Internet, so it gives them a complex.
I live in CT and I have a question about local laws relating to birds, specifically ducks. If I have a pond in my back yard and a duck decides to nest there can I legally capture and kill that duck without any sort of permit?
>>2362721
local laws don't apply. Federal law does.
you can't take a duck on your own property without the required hunting license/stamp.
the land is yours, the wildlife isn't.
>>2362732
this
ALL migratory birds are protected by federal law. removing them without the proper permits can get you slapped with a big ass fine.
>>2362721
no because it's a migratory bird. what the fuck is your problem anyway?
>oh god a living thing in my pond MUST KILL
Just had my 5 1/2 border collie/Lab mix put down.
>had a build up of fluid in her abdomen
>took her to the vet to find out whats going on
>not sure if puppies or infected uterus but they wanna do exploratory surgery
>was perfectly fine still running and playing, wagging at the interns and shaking hands with people
>hour later
>she had a 10 lb tumor from her uterus that had spread and was connected to her lungs
>also tiny spots of what looked like tumors on her other organs
>had lost much blood
>chances of her making it off the operating table were tiny
>even if she had made it off the table they said she could still likely pass away at any time and doubtful she would have lived past 6 months with how aggressive the tumor(s) were spreading
>even the Doctor said he's never seen a tumor as large and aggressive as it was in a dog
Already through a 6 pack and about to go dig her a hole, going to pick her up in the morning to bury her
Will post pic(s) when I find em
F
And to think spaying her would have prevented this.
RIP Oreo
what do you guys think about bulldogs? I'm thinking about getting one, they look really adorable
At least there better then pugs...i can't stand those little squished faced buggers
:)
>>2362459
>what do you guys think about bulldogs?
I don´t like them, well, the english ones, the american bulldogs are OK
Why?
They are fat, I don´t like the extremely squished face and I think they are ugly with their short legs, they also have trouble breathing (as all short nosed dogs)
but that´s just my opinion
I really love chimpanzees, all homonoids really.
I'd love to one day work with bonobos in a sanctuary.
>>2362443
I've been extreme with most animals but chimpanzees frighten me. They are the only other creature capable of hate.
Nope. Not chimps. Doesn't anyone remember the one that totally snapped and ate that lady?
>>2362960
Chimps no way. Bonobos are a lot more chill though
Hello /an/, I found this birb in a grass yard in a city, Netherlands. It was super tame and sat on my hand. I think it's somebody pet birb that got out / was dumped and I wanted to take it to the vet. It was perfectly healthy and flown away after I walked it abit.
>tame
you could say by the look of its beak it's really young
it's young, cute and stupid
good work letting it go
>>2362232
OP posting about how he found and caught a bird in spring makes it sound like one of those "I found a baby bird and took it away from its parents, what do I do now" threads. However, in my opinion the bird in that photo doesn't really seem to have typical baby bird qualities, such as the distinctive yellow rims on the beak. I think it looks like an adult Eurasian blackcap female.
Blackcaps aren't kept as pets though, and I'm not sure why the bird allowed OP to catch it. Maybe it was dizzy from hitting a window or something, and it needed some time to recover before it could fly away?
