My friend and I are having an argument, hoping maybe someone can help us settle it.
If a man had to fight a bear to the death, and all he had was a sledgehammer, do you think he'd have any chance at survival? My friend is arguing that a sledgehammer swung by a 6'1 190lb male wouldn't be able to generate enough force to even harm a bear.
no dude i think youd have a slight chance to beat it with a big ass sledgehammer

If you manage to strike the bear in the head on the first blow, maybe. body shots to a bear with a sledgehammer is totally useless though.
Do any /an/ons have any experience with taming these adorable fucks? I understand that they may not be as affectionate as other birds, but I at least want to gain their trust enough to be held.

My lawyer friend has two zebra finches, he just let his hand be in their cage for like 10 minutes 3 times a day. They're friendly enough now, but they'll never be affectionate, unless you raised them iirc.
my friend had a couple finches and he got them pretty tame by taking all the food out of their cage for a few days, then putting his hand inside with seed.
It was sad when his dogs got them, but at least those dogs had fun xD
>>2377480
How did he find the time to do that? I have no time to sit and do nothing while keeping my hand motionless inside a birdcage for 30min every day.
I have finches. My batshit crazy cunt ex used to catch them and then shake them violently or throw them around like a tennis ball. Now they hate all humans and scream and go crazy whenever I come close to their cage. I feel so fucking bad man.

How many chinchillas would I need to start a small time herd? I have a finished basement with a lot of room, ventilation, doesn't get too hot or too cold and either way I can adjust the temp.
I'm thinking of having some as pets and others for some small time fur/taxidermy. It'd be small enough that my state won't feel the need to register me as a real fur farmer but either way I can provide more than the minimum housing. I know I'm not going to be able to make more money than I spend especially if I'm buying from a fur farmer for my initial stock. I get while rexes and angoras but I just can't find anyone who sells whole chin carcasses or will process them with feet, tails and head attached.
Also how can I humanely dispatch them aside from snapping their necks? Are they too big for a gas chamber? Electrocution is also out of the question.
Can I eat them? I've eaten squirrel and guinea pig.
pls no bully.
I have no answer for you but am interested in your plan
>>2377268
What is the aversion to neck snapping? It is by far more humane than a gas chamber and it shouldn't fuck up the skin or coat if done correctly.
>>2377278
We're you thinking of something similar?
The chinchilla fur industry was thriving extremely well in the 60s. Not much now but China produces most of the world's fur products. From chinchillas, foxes, rabbits, etc. China and I believe Poland leads with fox fur.
With people being more concerned about treatment of fur baring animals, fir has picked you a bit in the USA. I know three fox breeders that lead in the online taxidermy community because they produce rarer colors, you can get a complete pelt(they won't tan them though) and one of them also sells foxes as pets.
Ive only seen a few chinchillas go by online as frozen carcasses and incomplete, damaged pelts I see pop up for a minimum of $60. I was lucky to buy up 20 of mosiac pelts for $12 a pop a few years back and I resold those for $60-80.
Not sure if the taxidermy community is just not interested, might be difficult to work with or what but I'd like to mount up some chins if not make a few cuffs here and there.
I heard of a chinchilla farmer getting found of animal cruelty for electrocution as his way of dispatching them. I don't like that idea myself but I find that odd since that's what fox farmers usually do.

I, for one, welcome our new black feathered overlords.
My neutered cat learned how to suck his own dick. He started by humping blankets, but that just seemed to make him frustrated. He moved on to exploring his regions more thoroughly recently. I counted at least 11 blanket humps that transitioned into dick sucking on Sunday. I fear he may be addicted and isn't spending enough time on self-improvement.
Anyone else have a self sucking cat?
I could probably log all these fuckin sessions through the day.
>>2377206
How is he peeing? I'm worried he may have a kidney stone if he's licking it that much. Honestly it sounds like it's hurting him rather than making him horny.
>>2377206
Sounds like a urinary tract infection or something. I'd take him to the vet.
What sort of cat toys have you guys had good luck with?
Laser

the big plastic rings that come off a milk jug when you open the cap for the first time.
My one cat comes RUNNING from wherever he is when he hears a milk jug touch the table. It makes eating cereal difficult.

If a pet is at a mature age and develops a terminal illness, is it right to put them down or to use medicine to prolong their lives?
It seems to me like unnaturally keeping a pet alive and possibly prolonging their suffering, putting them through stressful operations etc. is inadvertently selfish. I may feel like I'm doing a good thing for the sake of the animal, or is it just for my benefit?
>>2377032
If the animal is suffering AND that suffering cannot be stopped, then end its life. Otherwise no.
Depends on the condition.
>is it in pain?
Yes.
I would also say yes for an animal that can no longer move around as well. Like a dog with no legs.
Oof
The duckfaced dinosaur is an herbivore and the wee one looks to be a carnivore. This photo is further proof that meat eaters have been assholes to vegans for a very long time.
>>2376880
To be fair the duck faced one has probably been constantly whining about the virtues of an all plant diet for seven million years and he's just had enough of it.
>>2376880
The real irony is the duckface dino is "Trachodon," which was thought at the time to be a carnivore.
later it turned out "Trachodon" was a mashup of a herbivore's jaws with carnivore teeth.
My friend gave me his Husky because his wife was allergic. He's a bit over a year old, crate trained. Real nice overall, except he keeps me up at night by howling. He likely misses his owner, but only really howls at night. Any advice on dealing with this?
>>2376872
Get him so tired before bed that he passes out, or at least won't have the energy to howl.
Well it's a full moon currently so he's probably howling at that. Remember, huskies are basically wolves
Hope this helps :)
Are huskies normally aggressive? I know they're usually very playful, but a friend of mine had an incident where a husky killed her aunt's dog.
My Dogo Argentino when he was still a dogglet (still kinda is)

a-are you the chihuahua anon?
I love Dogos. Post more pics
What does it take?
>Put in new grass and plants. By 5 months, there's more dirt than grass.
>Mole or gopher thing digs while I'm standing there, mocking me with sadistic glee in it's lack of eyes
>Tried driving it away with horrific stink bomb garlic vials that putrefy the whole neighborhood. Mole energized and delighted by this.
>Mole vs. neighbor's cats. Cats poop on his head daily. He digs more holes to get away from the toilet. I try to help the cats by stomping the mounds down. One cat disappears and the other gets a limp. Mole wins.
>Set traps. Mole makes tunnels around them. Yard sinking like the titanic.
>Finally resort to poison. Mole has PhD in poison worms and pushes the worms back out of the ground, where other animals could eat it
Anything left to try? Southern california btw
>12ga.
>stand in yard watching mole runs
>when you see the fresh dirt moving, slowly creep up on him
>when you get as close as you possibly can, wait until you see dirt moving, then shoot
>if nogunz they make a three pronged fork you jab in the ground for this same purpose, I believe it's called "groundhog"

Your life is a cartoon and the mole is the plucky protagonist, sorry but you can't win this one.
cats are assholes.
It's your fault as an owner for not putting the fear of God into it the first time he got up on the table.

Would it be wise to own an Alligator Snapping Turtle? At least until it gets too big?
"Until it gets too big" is the problem with people owning aquatic reptiles.
only if you plan to give it something swimming pool sized to live in when its an adult. or let it free but only if you have let it hunt, so it knows how to, so it can survive.
alligator snappers are relatively docile compared to other snappers.
>>2376278
>letting it free
Don't do this if the animal isn't a native species
