My new cactus, check 'em.

How many hours of direct sunlight should it get per day?

I want to see that cactus with googly eyes on it. Cute.
Hey vg ive had this fellow chilling out over my bead for about a week and a half now. Was wondering if you could help identify it. I dont think its dangerous but I am slightly worried. Location is na southern california in oarnge count. City rancho santa margerita. It is about the size of a quarter which is why I am worried. I dont want to move it if it isnt dangerous
Totally meant to call you guys /an im not sure what better pictures to take as I dont want to disturb it. Here is another attempt. The spider started out way smaller than what it has grown into. When I first saw it, it was about the size of a pinky nail. And its tripled to about an American .25$ quarter
If there is any more information you need let me know. Also if you have any advice on how to determine the spider species that would be welcome too
wolf or grass spider of some sort. 100% harmless, as is every other spider you'll find in the area that you can't identify.
Been researching them for the last few days. Do they make good pets if you know what you're doing? I live about 1:45 away from a reputable breeder.

Bump im considering a hedgehog as a pet too
>>2388140
I've owned one before and they are nice pets that are easy to take care of.
I've had mine for almost a month now. Not exactly what I thought it was gonna be, even after all the research I did.
Just know that they're not playful at all, and they don't enjoy being handled, unless you find a 1/100 hedgie. It's extremely rare. All of the hedgehogs you see on youtube are the exceptions, and none of them really act like that.
They sleep constantly, and will only come out when it's the middle of the night, and the lights are out, and you're not around or sleeping. Every time I take mine out, he puts his head down and tries to hide and doesn't move. Then when I put him down, he stays there, without moving, until I ignore him, then he runs and hides. Any real interaction is almost impossible. Every once in a while, he'll poke his head out while I'm holding him, and he'll look at me, but that's about it. He'll go back to burying his head away, or he'll just shit in my hands.
And they do shit, alot. Even though he is potty trained (most of them naturally are) their shits are enormous for their size. And they shit like crazy when they're awake. And it smells pretty bad. They poop logs about the size of the large, long tootsie rolls, usually in their wheel, and then they run in it, over and over and over again, until they have little poop boots.
You have to clean the shit off their feet pretty often, or else they start to smell, and it's really gross holding them. And you do have to hold them, every day, otherwise they'll just stay in a prickly ball any time you try to pick them up. So you have to keep them used to you, not so that they'll play with you, cause they wont anyway, but so that they don't hurt you when they're in your hands. And they do hurt pretty bad. They're like giant sandspurs.
So yea, there you go. Even though I hate him sometimes, he's still my lil buddy, so I'm gonna take care of him no matter what, even though I somewhat regret it. But if you have any other questions, I'm happy to answer.
/an/, I have bantam chickens and a cat. Right now the bantams are contained safely in their coop, and I set up a run for them recently. Today, my cat got her first look at the chickens, and I'm concerned that she's going to start some shit and eat my bantams.
Is there any way I can get the two introduced safely and get them to coexist? I eventually want the bantams to be completely free range, and having the cat nearby to protect them would be a very nice bonus, but I don't want the cat to be a danger to the chickens.
are you retarded
If your cat isn't a starving stray it isn't going to do shit. If it is then it's still more likely to scavenge food left out for outdoor cats instead.
>>2388004
>He thinks the cat wouldn't be prey for any of the normal predators of chickens.
>vet prescribes liquid medicine to my cat
>tells me shake it well before giving it to him
>10 day medicine
>halfway through and realized I haven't been shaking it before giving it to him
will my cat be okay? i will shake it from here on out but has it been less effective? has it created side effects that could have been prevented from the shaking?
Just shake the cat to make up for it, the medicine will mix properly inside him.
>>2387935
Well, if it's meant to be shaken, then that means that the suspension of particles isn't evenly distributed. It's settled, basically.
You probably haven't been poisoning your cat, but the dosages probably havent been optimal, either. Just shake it from now on.
>>2387939
So do you think it's been entirely ineffective up to this point?
My family bought a golden retriever. She follows me around and "plays" with me and I often pet her back and mess with her, but it all seems so shallow. Whenever she interacts with me I just see a cute hungry animal trying to get food out of me.
I guess I'm out of the norm. Is my thinking incorrect? Does the dog actually love me, or does she just want food? Am I just not a dog person?
>>2387835
Probably just food. Dogs and cats always fuck off immediately after fed. Haven't touched my cat of 2 years in 3 weeks, it's mating season but the fucker doesn't appreciate being spoiled. I'm the only person that has ever touched the thing or had it in my lap too.

Dogs "cute" appearance and friendly behavior are attributed to neoteny aka pedomorphosis. Neoteny is the retention of a juvenile trait or stage from the life cycle of an ancestral species for an organism. The reason certain dogs have floppy ears, wrinkly faces, and curved tails that appear identical to wolf pups, is due to dogs being neotenic of wolves. Neoteny is not only superficial, it can also describe behaviors and hormone levels, in the case of many domestic dogs; their stress and hormone levels while interacting with humans are identical to that of wolf pups interacting with den mothers/pack members. Obviously this doesn't apply to all breeds, especially ones bred over thousands of years for intraspecific combat(dog fighting breeds) and primitive breeds(dingos, new zealand singing dogs, etc)
TL:DR Your dog loves you the same way a wolf pup loves its mother/fellow pack members
Citation: Degree of Behavioral Neoteny Differentiates Canid Polymorphs. R. Coppinger et. al. 1987
I'm thinking of getting a Belgian Malinois because if I'm going to have a dog it's going to be the best.
Tell me why a Maligator wouldn't be a good choice
Having one is a pretty much a full time job. Cool if you can afford it.

I have a yard with a fence
>>2388733
don't do it
>Be me
>breeds inverts for shits and giggles
>keeping some at GF's place while moving
>has velvet mits
>didn't know they had babies
>so small they got out of their cage
>now have 100+ baby velvet mites loose in GF's apartment
what do?
>>2387803
record it and put it on youtube.
then actually try to deal with the problem.
>>2387803
Keep an account of your increasingly wacky schemes to get rid of them and submit it as a spiritual successor to the bobbit worm chronicles.

They deserved it.
It's fucking hard to level up postgame in S/M.
Very late to post edition

Discuss anything aquarium related here, including inhabitants, decor and issues.
Google is your friend.
Feel free to ask questions but know that there are a lot of resources out there that could answer your question a lot faster and accurately than /an/.
Make sure to include these things in your post before asking because we can't help you if we don't have the full picture:
-tank size (include dimensions, not just volume)
-parameters (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite, pH, GH, KH)
-any and all inhabitants + how long you've had them

So...nothings for sure yet, but I might be moving to Oregon in the next month and be living in an RV.
The RVs are going tobe parked on just land I believe, I'm not sure if there will be power out there that can run 24/7
Anyone know of people who have fish in their RVs? ;_;

My friend kept a 10 gallon in her grandmother's mobile home with a betta and two female guppies. No issues until her grandmother overfed them while she was away one weekend.
My 1,5 month old cat still can't meow. Is this normal?
Some cats have vocal chords that are too tight.
Vocalizing is painful to them so they just wont ever do it. Even if they did, it's just a tiny squeak.
Don't worry, cats don't even need to meow.
Cute cat, please post more.
How does /an/ feel about the "greatest show on earth" closing down? Is it good for the animals? Did they benefit the elephants at all (either through awareness or taking them out of the wild)? Additional thoughts?
Yo fuck circuses
Animal issues aside they're gay as shit. First of all who the fuck likes clowns? Literally nobody. I'm not afraid of clowns but I can't stand how in your face they are. Second, why are jugglers and acrobats considered entertaining? They probably were the shit in vaudeville times because people were cool with hoop stick and ball in a cup - but now it's a waste of everyone's time
Fuck circuses
A damn shame.
I went to see a Barnum & Bailey show when I was little, 0/10 to be desu famibaka

when your cats have been turning into little monsters at the sight of the new kitten for a month.
Japanese spider crabs are scary look at their legs, on the other hand more crab meat, has anyone here ever seen one of these irl?
For what evolutionary purpose do they need such long legs?
>>2386835
When those babies lift up their dresses, they can hitchike on the highway like motherfuckers.
>>2386835
Not everything in nature is explained by evolutionary pressures.
I had a professor who would point this out and make sure everyone would get this point whenever someone asked what you did. I'm pretty sure most people even my classmates can't get why. It can be the result of random genetic drift for one, or maybe an actual gene that is being selected due to environmental pressures is linked to other gene that has no effect on the fitness of the individual so it sticks around even though it isn't needed.
(Yes,I know,it has Anime eyes,it's a joke picture I found here,and I want to know it's name.)
