Why do Canada geese have so many children?
12 posts and 2 images submitted.

Lots of children means more chances at least some will make it to adulthood. Quantity vs Quality.

Instead of putting all your eggs in a basket, why not 15 baskets?

Geese steal babies from other geese

I've gone to the dog park for the first few (5) times the past few months without any problem until today.

I was walking in a field area with my Pom-mix(8-9lb dog) when over the crest of a hill, where the trail begins, came two small women with about 5-6 very large dogs between them. I'm not sure what type but most looked like pit or boxer mixes.

This pack of dog barrels over the hill and towards my dog, who stresses and starts towards me. The dogs follow and before he can get to me they cut him off and my dog zooms into the tall grass adjacent to us instead. The dogs pursue full speed with my dog yelping as he runs and circles back around to me again. Before he can get to me(I'm going towards him at this point) he ends up on the ground with the pack ontop of him while he aabsolutely *screams*.

I lose sight of him under these dogs and luckily my friend steps in and grabs him out of the pile. He's crying and terrified and the dogs are still not under the control of their owners, jumping up on my friend to try and get at him.

No blood was drawn but his fur had "wet" spots where it looks like the dog(s) had mouthed him.

What should I have done here? I raged at the two owners who claimed this was just play and I shouldn't come to a dog park if I can't handle it. But.. was that really play?

It may have been "just play", but those ladies are completely incompetent and should never allow 5-6 dogs to charge another dog. That's just disrespectful and lazy.

Hey /an/, I just found these things inside my umbrella. What the heck are they? They're little brown cocoons encased in what looks like dried mud. Some of them are hatched, but some look dead. Inside the dead ones are little white maggots. I can post more pictures if you need it.

Mud dauber wasp nest. Excellent pest control, they paralyze caterpillars and things like that and feed them to their larvae.

Post some interesting facts about animals that other anons may not know

Cuttlefish males sometimes resemble the females, and when a larger dominant male and female are breeding he joins the festivities disguised as a second female. The female's eggs are fertilized with both the dominant male's eggs and the craftier mimic's eggs, thus ensuring that she has diverse offspring.

Male anglerfish fuse themselves to a female, atrophy until they are nothing more than a pair of nuts, and release sperm as needed. Nice.

What can I do about this cat? She is going BONKERS at all times with no chill if we're not playing. And she only plays with a string I manipulate, will not play with one hanging there or a ball or toy mouse, ect. I get maybe 3 hours of sleep a night because she won't chill out, I play with her for about an hour and a half a day and at least 30 minutes before bed time. I'm a single person that works 50 hours a week...I don't know what more I can do. She meows at me constantly and jumps into the blinds (honestly I feel on purpose because it makes the most noise and right next to the bed) when trying to sleep. If I put her outside the room it's non stop meowing and my walls are like paper. I've had her for 3 weeks now from the spca and my life has been hell. I don't want to be heartless and give her back but idk what else to do. I've tried melatonin treats, she purposefully avoids them now after the first night of it (she even avoids her food if I sprinkle it on there), I've tried pheromone spray, cat nip, cat grass, ect. Please help

Meet positive behavior with positive reinforcement, negative behavior with negative reinforcement. Play time/treats when she is quiet, ignore/spray bottle when she bothers you.
>>
>>2395565
Spray bottle is actually positive punishment, not negative reinforcement.

>>2395569
If you're talking about operant conditioning yes. Don't gotta sperg out about it though, I'm sure I got the point across.

Are Bengal cats able to live in a small apartment or will it get stressed and rip the shit out of my stuff.

How much time per day are you willing and able to spend playing with the cat and giving it the physical and mental stimulation it needs?
>>
Bengals are basically dogs. Do you have the time to spend exercising a high-energy dog?

Hey /an/, I'm a vet student and I have to do a little survey.
Just how often do you take your animals to the vet?
And does it have to be in a noticeable bad shape to take it to emergency or do you take them to a check up on the slightest abnormality?
Pic related, the thot patrol.

I take my pets to the vet regularly (check ups once a year). And obv if it's in bad shape I take it immediately.
Cute bunnies, great patterns :)
>>
>>2394645

I have 3 dogs, 4 cats, 8 rabbits, 11 hamsters, and 2 ball pythons. I never take my animals to the vet and neither should you. It's not natural.
>>
My dog has a habit of getting lick granulomas that always require antibiotics no matter how hard I try to get him to fuck off of them. So I go every few months usually.

If he didn't have such bad luck I'd go just for vaccines, yearly checkups, and teeth cleaning, so it's probably be about 2-3 times a year.

If you don't want it, just take it off. It doesn't look that edible anyway and may harm the development of your plant.
