Any new material would be appreciated.
Classics are good too.
Taxidermy? What?
So, here's what happened. Around two hours ago I found a stray kitten in my house that seems to be the offspring of a stray cat that my mom often feeds. It's around two months old. It a bit wild because it bite me and tried to escape by all means. My plans are to domesticate it and then give it to a nice family. Is it possible? Should I go on with my plan or give it to its mom and don't worry about its health? Can you give any tips? Thanks.
pic somewhat related, it looks like him.
tl;dr I found a (somewhat wild) stray kitten, should I attempt to domesticate it or release it?
kill it before it kills you

It's with me in my bed. It hasn't purred yet.
Even non-feral kittens need time alone to adjust to new homes. Give him space for a day or two
>Giganthopus marshiensis
What did Crichton mean by this?
Is there a legit list about the real species discovered/described by Marsh?
>a posthumous Michael Crichton novel
Neat, but they sure are weighing heavy on Jurassic Park nostalgia for that cover.
It's probably made up; it may be a reference to Gigantopithecus bones, a type of extinct gigantic ape, which were found in the hands of the chinks who were selling them as dragon bones.

Last posthumous Crichton novel I read was Micro, and that was pretty bad. Is this worth reading?
>>2398794
defo, it's pretty interesting that according to the afterword by his wife Crichton was doing research for this book by the mid-70s, even before he had the idea for JP
>>2398800
never read Micro, so I can't compare it, but I like it better than Next so far, it's comfy and interesting enough.
really short though, you won't spend much time with it either way.
I love shibas so much

I saw this animal by the lake's shore in Toronto. I don't ever post on this board but I just want to know what it is. I think it's a mink but perhaps someone else knows better

my friend is giving away a 6 month old staffy x american bulldog for freeeee and I really wanna adopt it BUT i've never had a dog before. I'm a big animal guy in general but i've only owned cats and one frog, and I currently own one small cat. Is there anything I should know before I adopt it and is it a violent breed?
I don't mind it being a big guy 4 me but I don't want to risk adopting something that could end up being violent
>>2401249
pls respond
Animals are unpredictable, no one knows certainly for their behavior
>>2401257
idk might be cool
the owner wants to give him away and seems nice so i dont think he'll have been raised to be violent but im worried he might be bred with a violent dog somewhere down the line
I don't have a cell phone because I don't want to appear like one of those millennial hipster fucks that treats it like a life support mechanism and wears it glued to their face at every opportunity, but not having one really bit me in the ass yesterday.
I took a decently long trip yesterday and missed out on seeing a very rare bird because I simply didn't know to check a certain spot that I ended up driving right by three times. If I'd had internet access in any form I could have checked the local forums and seen all the reports of it. It really shits me that I drove all that way and missed it. Between being able to look up all IDs with photos, pulling up their songs on command, and just checking eBird and other forums it seems like in this day and age having a cell phone is as essential to birdwatching as having a pair of binoculars. I have a Sibley guide that I barely even take out with me anymore because I have no way to carry it and don't feel like wearing an entire backpack just for one book, whereas a phone would fit in my pocket (though the size they make these things these days it's questionable).
So what I'm getting at is I have zero knowledge of these devices and I hear people occasionally mention all the good programs (not "apps" you hipster fuckwits) that are useful but I never paid any attention so I need to know what are the best ones to get so I can make sure a phone (if I get one) will support them. I do know of Merlin and eBird but other than that I'm clueless.

Just get a cell phone, faggot. I was like you when I was like 16 then once someone bought me a phone I was super fucking glad. I use it mostly for google maps, gps programs that help me when hiking and stuff. Just try not to get obsessed with checking shit on it all the time.

A what?
Are these supposed to be alignment charts?
What the fuck is up with people (typically women) and being extremely annoying about their dogs?
I have worked a variety of jobs throughout my adulthood, and at all of them, I would see dog owners sneaking their non-service animals inside like it was nothing. At one point I worked at a grocery store that had a hot food bar. A woman brought in her retarded labrador, who kept trying to climb up on the bar and eat the food. I wound up having to throw all of it out just in case he came in contact with it. When my boss told her to leave, she flipped shit and went on about how the dog was "her child" and "he has rights too," then threatened to report us to the higher management who would also tell her to fuck off due to food safety protocols.
I just don't understand why these "people" can't just leave their animals at home. It's not like your dog is going to have a nervous breakdown being away from you for several hours. That said, my boss at work has often had to go home early because his wife's shitzus supposedly start shitting everywhere if someone doesn't walk them every 4 hours. I feel like at that point maybe you should look into getting less retarded animals.

>typically women
>being extremely obnoxious about their pets
That's pretty much cat owners in an nutshell. Hell, this is why cat videos and their 'antics' dominate YouTube, Facebook, and social media in general.
A cat can fart, and their fanatics will sniff it heavily and talk about how cute it was.
Cats literally piss all over their owners and property, and their fanatics just 'go with the punches'.
>>2399934
This is highly ironic, because it is pretty much a widely known reality that it is usually cat lovers that tend to be this crazed about their pets.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=crwUxkte_lU
It's a common reality as most current terrorists attacks being done by Muslims or most crimes in general being committed by blacks. Sure there may be exceptions, but the vast majority rule is still the most likely culprits.
as far as "tiers" of owners go, dog owners are the annoying loud guy at the party who has to be the center of attention. everyone kind of allows him to be there since he's not intolerable, but he's annoying. dog owners are often gratingly smug about their pet, since western society tells them that a dog is the best animal ever and also the coolest.
and holy fuck are they judgmental. they never shut up about OTHER PEOPLE'S pet choices. "cats are such assholes! lizards are weird! birds are for crazy people! fish are boring! guinea pigs are just giant rats, EWWW!" etc. they especially can't stand cat owners for whatever reason. i see a lot of dog owners go "i hate cats" and the cat owner shrugs it off, but if anyone dares say they don't like dogs they get swarmed with "WHAT? HOW? YOU HAVE NO SOUL OMG"
kinda funny how they're basically the "dishes it out but can't take it" personality of pet owners.
>implying its really extinct
All that aside what creature do you morn more than any?
For me, I'm forever pissed that I'll probably never see one of these in the zoo unless those geneticists get off their asses and do something about it.
>the tragedy that is the Stellar Sea Cow
Those poor bastards, they were like mini whales and they died so horribly and needlessly. Fuck it's such a damn shame.
Imagine what adorable pets they could have been. There would be super fluffy breeds and shit.
>>2399825
