Share some stories of awful pet owners you've met.
I have a disgusting lazy cousin that has owned a pet rat since last christmas. She never cleans her room so it's riddled with dust, she only cleans the rat's cage once every two weeks, so it's full of shit all the time. She also has an inbred looking dog that typical slavic rednecks own with fucked teeth that barks all the time for no reason, which stresses out the rat a lot. I'm surprised the poor rodent still hasn't become aggressive towards humans and he doesn't seem to mind it whenever I hold him.
Pic related, it's my cousin's rat 3 months after she got him.
Also forgot to mention that the rat lives in a tiny cage not intended for rats so it gets 0 exercise, there's rat shit all over her room's floor and she often pulls him by his tail.

Will it trigger you further if I mention the fact that this is her 5th lone rat or so, and 5 years later since her first pet rat, she still doesn't know the basics of how to properly take care of any pet rodent?
Walked into bathroom and saw this thing. What the heck is it? I'm scared.

You'll come around eventually. Everybody else start wanting a platypus.
My family has a black cocker spaniel. My mother picked him out on a whim, and he was perfect at first.
He was kicked by his previous owners as a puppy, so he's got a bad leg. We also knew they claimed he'd tried to bite their child, which is why they abandoned him. She brushed it off as abuse by a bad family.
The problem is, a year later, he's definitely child aggressive. He's growled and snapped at a child crawling on the floor, and has bit at the face of a child in his home and now in the park. The former he leapt at her with no touch or warning, the latter was petting him. He's also snapped at my mother's face once when she tried to get him to spit out what he was eating, and snarled at the cleaning ladies when defending a bone he left by the door.
This aggression was nonexistent in the first year, as well as his new habit of marking indoors. It's rare, but he will spray - he goes off and hides away to do it, never in front of us.
How do I handle this? I'm not sure what changed and has made him act like this. He will sit, stay, and come; Cocker Spaniel boards seem to give conflicting information about being the Alpha versus being kind to nervous cockers. Even more baffling, he will roll onto his belly and go up to strangers to ask for pets. The aggression comes with no warning (I work with dogs, I know the signs).
What do? How do I train him?

Behavioral changes can mean a myriad of things. Most often it's changes in environment that they react most to. Has there been any new things like a move, new pets, or people introduced recently? Behavioral training is also available to correct these problems. I would look into trainers in your area and see what they have to offer and which ones have positive reviews.
Hire a behavioral trainer, some aren't super expensive.

No moves or pets. I suppose the only change would be the family's attempts to establish an Alpha - the marking came before the aggression at children. But there was nothing stressful for him before that as far as I can recall.
Gosh, maybe it's me? I'm his favorite, but I moved back in to go to college nearby. He's never, ever been aggressive towards me though. He's tried to bite at my mother and my sister's hands when they try to grab his collar and pull him away when he's aggressive, but never myself. But I'm also the one who regularly feeds him, and the only one who walks him and issues commands.

I have a pacman I've had fro about 2 or 3 years now and I use to feed him weekly of super worms or crickets but he stopped eating about a year ago and stayed buried in his cage so I though he was just hibernating. Just a couple months ago I noticed he was in his waterdish which was empty and he seemed to have shed his skin and gotten dried out so I filled up his water dish and had him chill in it and in about 10 mins he woke back up and I though he was ready to eat so I got some meal forms for him but again he didn't eat so I put him back in his cage and he buried himself again. I'm worried about him as He hasn't eaten in almost a year but he doesn't look skinny or anything. This is him right now in my sink

OP, idk what the fuck that is. It doesn't look like a frog to me.

did you let him hibernate each year?
Because that´s fucking important
Meet Grey. S/he is a stray cat. It's been hanging around my work for a couple months and unlike most strays was very friendly, brave, and affectionate.
I don't like cats generally and trust them even less. I've never owned a cat and never met one that liked me. But to be brief, Grey is different. The first time I held out my hand to try and pet it, it stood on its hind legs to reach its head to my hand. So we became casual buds.
Grey clearly used to have a home and wasn't used to being stuck outside. We live in Florida, and if you've watched the news in the last week you know what that means. When I was leaving work tonight, Grey met me at the door soaking wet and meowing desperately. So I brought him home.
So here's the deal. I've got one stray cat, one bag of cat food from the last gas station open, and otherwise no idea what the fuck I'm doing. Grey as you can see is chilling, alternately dozing off and watching the rain. I shredded some paper towels on a baking pan for what I hope it will use as a litter box and I've folded a padded guitar bag inside out for it to use as a bed when it finishes drying.
TLDR as this post is already running long: what should I know and what should I do with Grey for the next few days before stores and vet clinics re-open?
>>2478099
Cats are pretty chill, all you really need to do is give Grey food, water, and pets. It might not know where to shit if you don't have a litterbox though.
>>2478099
just try and keep her clean and fed.
Good for you, mate. You're a good human.
Grey looks comfy on that towel by the window. So I'm guessing he's not too traumatized, but you never can tell.
Cats need the basics, of course. Let them eat and drink in peace, without a big audience or fuss. Litter box should be somewhat private, if possible, not out in the open.
They also want a perch where they can see the room they're in, and maybe watch outside. And maybe a hidey-hole (which is why cats lounge on dining room chairs under the table, or crawl up in weird places. A cardboard box on its side can be a refuge. Cats like to be "protected" on three sides while they watch the room.
Be a warm lap, and they'll come to you. Don't chase their affection.
Good on ya being a port in a storm.
Hi /an/ can you guys help me identify my dog, this is a picture from reddit that looks like my dog. Because the picture I have of my dog are all shitty. Please help
this is a picture of my actual dog (Ik very shitty cause she sleeps on porch and the light is bad)
>>2477954
i can confirm this is a dog
>>2477955
what is it?
I found a stray (female) about a month ago. I notified all nearby shelters/hospitals and haven't received a response so I decided to keep it. I have a two problems.
Problem 1: My dog (female) will not tolerate the stray unless the stray is crated. If the stray is crated, my dog can walk by and sleep next to the crate with no issue. She occasionally tries to sniff the stray's butt but it's kind of hard cause there's a crate. Normally, my dog will bark/lunge at other dogs (ex: on a walk). If I put my dog in the backyard and let the stray roam the house, my dog will bark and pounce at the glass door, as she can see the stray is out of the cage. The only place the two dogs can "coexist" is on the car, but that may be because they're both dizzy or something. If I try to walk both at the same time, my dog barks/lunges at the stray as if she would towards any other dog. How do I properly integrate the stray into my house so that my dog won't bark/bite her? The stray seems to be indifferent towards my dog with the exception of problem 2.
Problem 2: The stray does not like my dog being nearby when the stray is being fed. If there is food inside the crate, the stray becomes extremely defensive and will bark loudly at my dog if my dog comes close to the cage. The stray has no issue with me taking the food away though.
Are both dogs desexed?
>>2477962
Both dogs are intact.
My dog is approaching 5 years old and the stray is estimated to be about 1 year old by the vet.
Your dog is highly reactive and aggressive. You need to find a trainer who is experienced with reactive dogs. This behavior is not something you will be able to fix on your own.
The trainer may also have advice with regards to the strays food aggression. My dog used to react in the same manner; I was very patient with him and now I can have both dogs eat side by side with no issue. They understand which bowl belongs to them.
