What's my best chance at making my snapping turtle more friendly? Also name suggestions, I've had her for 8 months and haven't named her
>>2413119
common snapper, zero chance
I had one a while back, from quarter size to just a bit bigger than yours. You are on the cusp of being unable to handle it anymore due to size/weight. If you have a pond that would work but it still won't be friendly.
>Want a friendly turtle
>Get one named for the fact it bites stuff
Good job
name her Trixie
Name a better dog breed than the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
Protip: You can't.

I really hope she didn't get an exploding heart from the cav parent ;-;

What are your spooky experiences involving Animals and Nature?
When i was a kid i had to 2 zebra fish in a little tank and i would always feed them when i got home. One day i get home and there not there, i look all over the tank and they werent in there. So i asked my mom if she knew what happened to them cause sometimes she would change my fishes water. She said she didnt and looked all over my room and on the floor. Never found anything
I think she killed by accident now, but when i was a kid it was spooky
one time i try to pet a doge but he anger and almost bite and i become scare for life....

One time, when I was little, I stepped on a rattlesnake. For some reason it didn't bite me, but I could have very easily died right then and there.
Hey guys. Before you get on my ass about putting it back, it was in my snobby neighbors front yard and they've been installing a new sewer system and uprooted it's home and I guess his dog attacked it? I don't know, but my neighbors wont let me put it back. It won't move or open it's eyes. I have someone doing an emergency run to the pet store to pick up crickets, a caterpillar, pinkies, and a live mouse for the little guy since I heard they eat those things.
Is there a chance I can rescue him? To be honest he might be an adult considering how tiny these owls are.
Any advice, an?
Anyone have experience taking care of owls?
>>2412643
have you called animal control yet?
they'll typically deliver it to the nearest appropriate wildlife rehab center.
>>2412647
I will if it's current state doesn't improve, but my dad wants to keep it.
To humor the old man I just want to see if there's a feasible way to feed it, help it recover, and keep it as a pet.
So far I've given it some water in a syringe and 3 mealworms whos heads I pinched off first to make sure they wouldn't hurt the poor guy.
I just. I barely woke up and I can't deal with all this.
Put a lid on top with some air holes. Darkness will help relax it
Hey guys is this a steatoda triangulosa ? Just found it and don't want to kill it unless it's venomous. Any help is appreciated !

Black mouth cur.
Maybe a Belgian Shepherd mix?
>>2412524
looks similar to my dog
that's what strays look like after many generations without human interference
I mean, there are sume breeds that look like this, but..
What is wrong with my dog? She does very little but sit like that, protecting the toy. Wherever she goes she carries that thing in her mouth. She sits and very silently whispers, and she treats the toy as her own pup. She's been like that for a few days. What's the matter?
>>2412413
False pregnacy most likely. Her hormones are out of wack but it will correct itself in a couple weeks at most. There isnt anything you can do
>>2412413
Animals need to breed. Let a (male) dog impregnate her and give away the puppies if you don't want more pets.

turkeys are the largest known game birds, aren't they?
These fuckers think they own the streets here
Seems like they must be going through a hell of a lot of cuttlefish to supply the pet market when you're getting one bone per fish.
>>2412373
the entire fishing industry isn't sustainable. the numbers keep dropping at an alarming rate
I assume they breed them in terrible and cheap conditions for this
>>2412382
this. i don't know why this isn't talked about more. the same people who will have a deep vein thrombosis about someone paying hundreds of thousands of dollars to kill a single, protected land mammal will happily chow down on countless, wild, unprotected sea creatures that have been essentially pillaged from the ocean
So we have a friend, got a dog, was pregnant, and they're giving one of the pups (female) to us for the cost of her shots. Mother's a husky, and best they can tell, the father is either part St Bernard or German Shepherd. There are a couple things I'm unsure about before we commit to anything:
1. I'd love a dog I can exercise, but I've heard stories about St Bernards breaking their legs jumping off of a bed. I can't do much about it either way, but I'm wondering if physical traits take after either the mother or father more dominantly.
2. I'm going to see the pups tonight to be sure we want to take one. I very much prefer the longer husky/Shepherd muzzle/snout and altogether sleeker look over the shorter St Bernard snout and floppy ears, and I'm not totally crazy about the droopy mouth area. Is there anything I can look for in the pups (i.e. fur, head shape, behaviour) that I can use to be a bit more sure about either what the mix is, or what they'll grow up to look like? If it helps at all, the pups all look to have black noses, but some of them have that pink vitiligo look.
Pic somewhat related, I don't have a picture of the actual puppies right now, but this one has similar fur, but a little less brown and more black.
Actually, if fur print helps:
Mostly black, looks like some brown "accents" (ear area, "eyebrows"), few spots along the body
White stripe running up from the middle of the nose, stops under the eyes and picks up again between brows to run down the head
One of the other pups are white with the kind of eye markings I see on a lot of St Bernards.
Thoughts?
1) it's a crapshoot, but I have never heard of St. Berns every breaking their leg from a jump, are you sure you aren't thinking of another breed?
2) Not at all. If you are going off of looks I assume you are very experienced with dogs or you are not going to have a good time with this one.

Remember to give the puppy time before trying to do anything hard on their joints like running. I think it's at least a year for smaller dogs, not sure for the larger breeds. Ask your vet.
don't feed him puppy food and don't neuter until after he's reached sexual maturity

What are the best breed of cats to kill pests? My old mousing cat is getting too old for it and we've now got a rat infestation nearby.
>>2411256
Adopt an older cat that was originally a stray.
>>2411292
Why? We don't really have that many stray cats out here.
Just a generic cat - ex-strays are often good hunters, and females tend to be a good choice as neutered males often get lazy and intact toms roam and will hunt miles away from home.
You can search out a breeder if you really want to go to the trouble, but most purebreds are bred that way because they're pretty or make cute pets, not because they're any better at hunting. Many of them are perfectly adequate hunters and Bengal cats do have a high prey drive, but it's a lot of money and trouble when no-breed housecats make up the vast majority of the feline population and are already very effective hunters.
what do you think of ragdolls
why people keep insisting taking photos of cats with dirty eyes... all this light box set up and time spent, and then poopy gooey eyes
at least photoshop it off but nooo

I have ragdoll persian hybrids. They're great kitten McMittens. The male is very needy, kind of dog like, but has some health issues. The female is more independent (she don't need no man), although she is desperate to be by the male all the time (he doesn't care about her, lol), and she is strong as an ox.

Hey /an/, usually on /k/ or /fit/ but I just adopted my first dog from the shelter. I have a few questions for you guys.
He has kennel cough and I already took him to the vet for antibiotics, but he's really lethargic inside. Is he just sad and adjusting/getting over his illness?
Also how do I begin training an adult shelter dog? Most of the resources I've been seeing are pretty much for puppies. Do I just use the same techniques? He barely responds to his name and isn't even that receptive towards treats. Luckily he's pretty good about only pissing/shitting outside as long as I take him out after meals.
He's also pretty underweight so I started putting in an extra meal for him during the day. Is that a good idea? He got into the pound and weighed in at 30lbs but when I took him to the vet he was down to 25.
>Is he just sad and adjusting/getting over his illness?
Probably
>Do I just use the same techniques?
Yes
>He barely responds to his name and isn't even that receptive towards treats
You have to teach him his name, and he will begin to respond to treats when he settles in.
It can take a while for puppers to fully settle in. Moving from at least one prior home to the shelter to your home is stressful on a dog. I've had mine for a month and a half and it still doesn't feel like he's settled in. The cough will only exacerbate things. The most important thing is to give him space and time.
Say his name before you feed and while he's eating, as your petting him, before you go out, etc... Just anything nice and he'll become responsive in due time.
How is he with toys and what sort of treats are you giving him?
>>2411063
>How is he with toys and what sort of treats are you giving him?
He pretty much just ignores toys. The only treats he likes are meaty ones or human food. I wonder if he got used to it from eating out of the trash or something.
