>2017
>try to adopt a dog so go to rescue shelters near me on petfinder
>need to fill in an applications to adopt the dog
>shit is more in depth than an SF-86
>they need to visit my house before they can give me any dog
>random visits anytime they want in the dogs life
>literally go through all of that, a few places in person
>don't get called back, see the same dogs still on their webpages months later
>end up getting frustrated and going to the local dog pound
>as soon as I walk into view the dog kennels, there is sad music playing like in that commercial that asks for donations. I almost broke out laughing at how fucking ridiculous that was
>they only had five or six crates with really fucked up (missing eyes, or a leg) 5 years or older pitbulls
>give up and go to dog store supplied by puppy mill
>Get a nice dog, talked out of few dogs when the store manager described their temperament.
>asked things relevant to dog ownership, helpful customer care, finally find a dog and spend two hours at the store hanging out with him and looking at things I would take for him
>happy ever since
Moral of the story, shelters might as well be crazy dog ladies or put all their dogs down. Still upset about it to this day. Thought it would be an entertaining story to read.

Post pup or gtfo

I'm looking to get a dog at the moment & reading through the application process for these shelters is ridiculous. It's been forever since I had a pet, I don't have a vet reference for you or 3 personal references or my DNA or whatever else they claim to need. Hell, I'm willing to give you money & take an animal out of your shelter, why does everything have to be so damn complicated these days.
>>2476822
In contrast, you used to be able to pay $20 to board an airline, not provide an ID, carry anything you wanted with you because they didn't do luggage checks yet, and smoke during your flight.
Now you have to provide multiple DNA samples along with 10 professional references and submit to mandatory criminal background checks just to get a mutt. We're almost regressing as a society.
Sorry pterosaur fanbois, but Peters was right all along. Sorry about your primitive uneducated feefees, but truth takes precedence over bias. Get the fuck over yourselves, and stop listening to these modernist popsci retards. Listen to a level-headed man who actually knows what the fuck he's talking about.
>>2476683
What did I miss?
Who is Peters and what happened in regards to the pterosaur?
>Listen to a level-headed man who actually knows what the fuck he's talking about.
>Peters
Weak bait.
>saw a baby mouse lying on it's back
>assumed it was dead, gave it a little kick on it's side
>it rolls a little bit
>it keeps rolling
>and rolling
>it stops
>watch as it seems to still apparently be dead on its back
>suddenly it starts rolling again and even manages to turn and roll itself under my fridge
what the fuck just happened? I wish I recorded that. It rolled itself so naturally as if it was it's native form of locomotion.
Why is this so hilarious?
>be 8 at summer camp
>find a mouse lying down next to a tree
>nudge it thinking it's asleep but is really dead
>nigglet comes up behind me
>(deafening chimp call) ANON KILLED A MOUSE
>everyone thinks i am a moues killer

t. mouse killer
What happens to alligators when a hurricane strikes? Does it bother them at all, or do they just swim around all over the place eating fish and drowned mammals? If they get lifted up by the wind and hurled through the air, do their scales protect them? And what happens to all the baby alligators at alligator farms, do they just blow away, or are they taken somewhere safe and kept in a box? Impossible to find this sort of information by conventional means, hence have come here. Please assist.
>>2475092
hurricanes have been happening for longer than alligators have existed, they evolved to survive them.
In practice they just slosh around in their swamps and probably don't get bothered at all.
>>2475092
1. Alligators are a lot tougher than most animals.
2. Alligators can hold their breath for up to 2 hours in normal non stressful conditions, but if moving possibly 12 minutes.
3. Alligators have strong claws for digging out of bad scenarios.
4. They have been alive forever and ever.
Probably nothing happens, they find a plant system or little cove to chill in and hang on. No different than a storm really. Animals have instincts for this sort of thing.
>>2475092
Like most animals they can sense when a storm is approaching and seek shelter but they're tough to begin with they won't have any problem with storms it's us coming in contact with each other than will cause problems
Get this shit done to you and tell me right into my face you're not fucking relaxed

My neighbors' dog has gotten into my yard twice now. She jumps on the shared fence until the nails come out of the posts and the planks fall down or open like a dog door.
She definitely looks pit-y, but that's a type of dog, not a specific breed, and she looks too big, so I think she must be mixed with something else. Any ideas?
I'll post a face close-up next.
Hope this one posts right.

Looks like a staffy
Cute give her pats and then make the fence stronger
Today I found pic related on the tip of a twig of thyme. Does anyone have an idea what it is? The translucent part was jelly-like and very sticky, & the 'core' was very hard.
It dried out rather quickly, I tried taking a magnified pîcture of the core.

Looks like a seed. Some do that when they absorb water (basil and chia off of the top of my head), in this case probably from the morning dew.
Pop it in some water and it should rehydrate.
Curious to know what /an/ thinks of their own country's nature, any interesting animuls? Personally I have none, the danish nature is about as bland as it gets, deers & pheasants is about all you're gonna run into on a hike.
We have some sick mushrooms though.
England, pretty much same. The odd viper or grass snake, I spotted a common lizard once. But we have the cool mushrooms too
>>2479014
I remember England being pretty much the same as well, except your seagulls are a lot more aggressive for some reason
>>2479017
Yeah, thieving bastards. I live next to a resort town aswell so they're extra swoopy

Is it ok to have outdoor cats if you live on a farm?
Yes, but you vaccinate and MUST neuter them.
a ratting terrier would be better for pest control and won't spread toxoplasmosis over all your crops
>>2476344
Its okay, i have 5 cats and they are outside most of the time, 2 or 3 if them are even neutered i think. I just love to see them playing around because we live near a pretty big foresty area
