Alright, anyone here know a thing or two about snakes?

I heard a whining, meowing sound outside my front door,. It sounded vaguely like a cat, but not any sound I'd ever heard a cat make. It was happening maybe every 3 or 4 seconds.

Went to check it out, and after opening my door spooked what looked like a long, black snake, and it went slithering into the bushes in front of my house. It was longer than a foot, easily, and decently thick. Real snake territory, not any of those pussy shits you usually see around.

And the noise is gone with it, so I'm sure that the snake was the one making it. I thought for a moment maybe I was hearing the death cries of a kitten or something it was eating, but those wouldn't stop just because the snake dragged it into some foliage.

I'm trying to figure out what type of snake it is. I'm trying to identify it by the sound it made, because I didn't get a great look at it, but google is giving me jack shit in that regard, so I'm at a loss. I have two dogs, and i'm vaguely worried about taking them out now that I know i got this fucking black mamba looking motherfucker kicking around in the shadows, and I don't know if he's dangerous.

I live in central Florida, if that helps.

The snake was not making that sound.
Snakes aren't vocal animals.
> It was longer than a foot, easily.
Thats a very small snake

If it is not obvious, I am no snake expert.
>>
more likely you had some other animal, rodent or something, near the snake making the noise. Snakes make a hissing noise sometimes but not anything approaching a meow.

Is this really the largest slug of all time?
I can't help but imagine ancient aquatic slugs would've gotten huge at some point, like those giant dragonflies in the carboniferous era.

I agree, especially if they were aquatic. It's hard to preserve a soft-bodied mollusk like that. I wouldn't be surprised if there were slugs ten times that size

Who else supports antispeciesism ?

If you actually care about animals (other than just memeing about it) I don't see how you couldn't be.

What are you doing to further the struggle?

Why are moths so slow/easy to kill whereas to swat a bluebottle or housefly you have to build up all of your inner chi and strike faster than the speed of sound

How much would treatment for a cats UTI be?

I want to adopt a cat, but its one of those things where i want to make sure i can financially take care of the fucking thing.

So far it's had 1 UTI and it's one year old. The previous owner assured me it was a UTI and not just a shitty vet using shorthand for blockage/crystals in the urethra causing inflammation.

I dont know what the chances of it happening again is, but would like to ballpark vet visits for that kind of thing. I like in Buttshit, Ohio if that helps.

I've seen one once when I was 16 and I shit my pants.
I was walking alone at night through a small path in the forest to reach a B&B until I saw this weird thing with quills exposed. I froze and let it pass near me. Only later I realized that it was actually a porcupine.
>>
I'd feel better stabbed by one of those instead of our north American porcupines. I've only come across roadkill ones and YouTube's of captive ones being adorable.

Is animal training inherently cruel, especially to wild animals? Does PETA have a point when it comes to circuis or are they as crazy as they usually tend to be?
11 posts and 3 images submitted.
>>
it can be. i don't believe for a second that most circuses train their animals "humanely". a wild animal will be less motivated by food than fear of the humans jabbing it with sharp things if it doesn't do a certain action.

i don't believe animals enjoy being in shows either. loud, flashing lights, enclosed environment. stressful. thankfully animal circuses in developed worlds are seen as tacky and lame these days, and they struggle a lot. third world? another story. just like zoos.

Depends on the animal and the training.

Domesticated animals aren't hard to train or keep in captivity. That's why they are domesticated. For this reason I don't mind things like trained dogs, horses, and pet birds. Many of them are even adopted from shelters and they make a point of telling you so. As long as they aren't made to do anything extreme and are handled with love, it's OK.

If a wild animal is being trained just to sit still or run on cue, that's not so bad in general. These basic "tricks" are how zoos can show off animals like wolves or falcons. They aren't doing anything especially complex or un-natural.

Now, the un-natural stuff is bad. Often the motions are ones the animal shouldn't be doing and can injure them over time even if the training is not cruel. For example, a bear on a bicycle. That's not natural or healthy for the bear! And then there's the dubious training methods.

Yes it is, one of the only things PETA is right about
