Birbs don't need a ton of food or water. Bread is terrible, for street trash birb and ducks.

Pick up a small bit of mixed seed from the pet shop and see what it likes best. Then buy more of that seed. It might enjoy some live feeder crickets if you want to buy a few small ones while you're there.
