In italy it was fucking common back at my age. Still didn't do it.

Not really but you might get some looks or comments. Also be careful, 16 year olds are still minors. And be careful about her parents too. Parents sometimes get super protective about this.

The main reason it gets people worked up is that teenage years are basically like dog-years. A lot changes over 3 years for a teenager, but once you're past adolescence things level out and (barring head trauma or brain tumors) your personality/maturity is pretty much settled into place.

Your granny is the same person she was at 40... just wrinklier, but the same "person".
