When setting up a meeting with a psychologist, what details should you mention? I've just not done this before.

I told my therapist "the last few months kinda sucked, I need someone to talk to".

There's this thing called disclosure that you might want to know a bit about. Basically if they think you're a possible threat they have an obligation to report you. Also check that they have insurance and have qualifications as there are fraudsters out there. Other than that I assume it's whatever you want to speak to them about. Also different quacks have different styles so if it doesn't go to your liking shop around.
>>
What is the reason for you going to see them? How are you really doing, what is a typical day for you?
>>
Think of it as introducing yourself in depth for the first time to someone you know and feel comfortable with. At my first session, mine guided me to talk about my family, how was school, college, friendships, relationships, hobbies and interests ect

What I mean is what should you mention before the session, like on the phone or email. I get the idea that there will probably be such discussion on an actual meeting.

Nah, I am pretty sure I am not a school shooter yet. Though I wonder, how'd you determine whether the psychologist fits you? For now, I just don't want to squander money too much, and I am not sure whether I will be able to tell how helpful first sessions are.

Thing is, subjectively I am mostly fine. Sometimes i get down when interacting with others and pity myself, but it comes and goes. The suicidal thoughts sometimes come, though I think it's just me liking drama too much.
When I had to pass the psychological evaluation for my work practice, I was shown to have depression and suicidal risk and was advised to seek a specialist. So I decided to take the professional advice, but I can't bring myself to call/write a message with no knowing what to actually write.

Call them on the phone. Tell them that you were advised to seek a specialist because during a psychological evaluation for your work practice you were shown to have depression and suicidal risk. That's really it.

>how'd you determine whether the psychologist fits you?
I've been to a few therapists. Sometimes straight away I didn't click with them so I never returned. Another I really enjoyed the visits and got a huge amount out of it and it was not too expensive so she was beneficial for me.

Another aspect I have noticed is that visiting a particular shrink a few years ago was good, but when I returned at a later date the sessions were not as helpful. The therapist herself was getting depressed (she was over worked and was having her own problems). Even though it is professional it is still a relationship that is intimate, you'll find out as you go through your sessions.

You're paying for it and you want to feel good. Don't forget that.
