>call talent managers and tell them you need representation
>they will watch your reel, look at your resume and headshots and either take you or not (you only need one)
>if they don't take you, ask what you need to do improve
>take whatever advice they give you
>when you get a manager, do whatever they say even if you think you know better (you don't)
>go to every audition they get for you
>get their help, they want you to get work
>be friendly at auditions, you might see the same people often (actors and casting people)

i moved out to hollywood to become a writer. now i just do indie shorts and web series. I support myself by managing a small business in west hollywood.

if you dont have anything going on, then you can come out, try it for a few years, then pack it up when you dont get anywhere.

but if you love acting you'll always get cast in shorts and indie stuff if you work for free.

Another tip: In Hollywood everyone wants to be a director, too. So get together with some film students or similar and get paid in pizza by being the actor of some arthousy shortfilms. You need to collect material for your showreel and some fucking experience.

Assistant to a talent agent here, sorry to say you won't have a very good chance.

You basically need to start getting into student films, which you could do anywhere, to build a reel. Find the shittiest agency who'll take you, and hope to God you book small roles in TV shows. From there, if you have enough talent and charisma, you can start getting guest star roles. From there you'll finally have a shot to become a series regular or someone who's actually in a prominent movie role. It takes a long time. Only 0.000000001% of actors ever suddenly make it big time coming from nothing.

LA. If you're ethnic (i.e. not white) you'd have a better chance. No matter what, everyone needs to build up their credits to get signed at an agency. Only if you're ludicrously funny/hot would you have a chance being signed as a nobody. Remember, every metropolitan area has funny and hot guys/girls by the boatload. If you fit that bill, you need to stand out by being REALLY, REALLY talented. Being ethnic is also a huge plus, saying again.
