> 29 year old male
>want to move to LA and become a film actor
>on the spectrum, but not intelligent / basically a retard
>manlet
>only acting experience I have is lighting master in a middle school play

I mean you can be on the spectrum (Dan Aykroyd, Daryl Hannah), stupid (Keanu Reeves [no offense man, I love you]), manlet (most hollywood males), have little experience (Channing Tatum), and still be an actor.

I don't want extreme fame/money and would rather prefer being a support as opposed to a lead.

what do, /adv/
>>
>29
>not smart
your only chance was being young and hot and you've already missed the bus

Go ahead and move to LA but you're gonna be bussing tables and desperately trying to get a role as an extra.
>>
>>18112754

beats my current life living with my parents in tennessee.
>>
>>18112754

oh yeah, and sorry if this is common knowledge, but much does intellect factor in for getting roles. Like you say
>>
>>18112749
I'm gonna say that.......98% of all celebrities were "picked" to be famous at birth or when they were young. Because of family connections. Not because of their talent.

Hollywood today is a club. But really, a cult.

You won't "make it" because it's not something that can be made.
>>
>>18112749
Move to LA and pursue your dream.
>>
California is 1984.

LA is dumpster meal with an elite steakhouse pricetag.

Hollywood is the biggest scam outside of government.

You will work part time filming TV commercials and it will not come anywhere near paying your rent.

The work will suck ass and nobody will appreciate it; you will never be in the running for a TV sitcom role let alone film industry.
>>
Don't fucking move to LA to get started. Find a local casting agency and see what they recommend.
>>
>>18112764
intelligence doesn't directly factor into getting roles, but your ability to act and improve your acting is based on understanding/learning social cues and behaviors.

That's not really the forte of someone on the spectrum
>>
>>18112757
Nelson?
>>
Let's see a headshot first, a huge part of casting has to do with having the right "look" for the part. So if you're ugly just give up now.

Second do you actually have any training as an actor?
>>
>>18112749
gay porn
>>
>>18112749
Well considering that you have that lighting master experience from the school play and the fact that you want to be a supporting actor instead of the lead I think you should succeed within the first few days of arrival in LA.

You're going to end up as a waiter or hooker. That happens to almost every wannabe actor out here who "follow their dreams".

It's also who you know.
>>
>>18112754
Pfft, Alan Rickman was in his fourties before he got his first acting role. Not saying that he's not smart but being hot and young isn't an requirement, as long as you're talented.
>>
>>18114309

are you implying I look like that guy. I feel like it's someone I should know but my lack of education is rearing its ugly head
>>
>move to LA if you have the money
>register with Central Casting for background work
>get headshots done as cheap as possible
>don't overthink it or post them of FB, just 2 or 3 looks and pick one to use, it literally couldn't matter less
>get Craigslist and Film School acting (unpaid) gigs
>put together a reel of your acting
>type your resume
>call talent managers and tell them you need representation
>they will watch your reel, look at your resume and headshots and either take you or not (you only need one)
>if they don't take you, ask what you need to do improve
>take whatever advice they give you
>when you get a manager, do whatever they say even if you think you know better (you don't)
>go to every audition they get for you
>get their help, they want you to get work
>be friendly at auditions, you might see the same people often (actors and casting people)
>do your best and never give up
>fail miserably and find yourself a 45 year old nobody with shitty stories of the time you were in the same room as a famous person

You do not look like him. Calm down.
>>
>>18114324

thanks.

>all of that

I'll probably never be good enough to warrant all of that, though

>being/dying as a nobody

I'm fine with that. I've been an omega since birth

>bragging about being with celebrities

I wouldn't see them as superiors, but peers. Even if I wasn't as good as them. The only time I would brag about meeting someone is if it was my waifu, aimee teegarden or someone like zoey deutch
>>
>>18112749

if you got nothing else going on, why not?

i moved out to hollywood to become a writer. now i just do indie shorts and web series. I support myself by managing a small business in west hollywood.

if you dont have anything going on, then you can come out, try it for a few years, then pack it up when you dont get anywhere.

but if you love acting you'll always get cast in shorts and indie stuff if you work for free.

its admittedly easier if you're not a waiter imo.
>>
>>18114336
>I'll probably never be good enough to warrant all of that

what i wrote is basically just taking the first steps to getting any work as an actor. you need representation or you're literally not going to ever get an audition for anything.
>>
>>18114276
>>18114301
Fuck, are those the pics you apply with? I think they look way too regular / normal. You should try to get a professional shooting. And expressing different emotions. Serious look, a more family friendly pic etc. pp. and get some proper fucking lighting. You need a sedcard mang

Another tip: In Hollywood everyone wants to be a director, too. So get together with some film students or similar and get paid in pizza by being the actor of some arthousy shortfilms. You need to collect material for your showreel and some fucking experience.
>>
>>18114348

thanks. and those arent actual photos I've used I just called them casting photos Idk why

Assistant to a talent agent here, sorry to say you won't have a very good chance.
>29 but no credits to speak of
>shrinking market for Caucasian male roles (the 30s and 40s Caucasian males have the toughest time atm)
>you are neither "charactery" or hot
>finding representation will be impossible until you bolster your credits more
>common misconception: the market is oversaturated with equally talented people
>it's actually oversaturated with people who are shit, actual skilled actors are very very rare

You basically need to start getting into student films, which you could do anywhere, to build a reel. Find the shittiest agency who'll take you, and hope to God you book small roles in TV shows. From there, if you have enough talent and charisma, you can start getting guest star roles. From there you'll finally have a shot to become a series regular or someone who's actually in a prominent movie role. It takes a long time. Only 0.000000001% of actors ever suddenly make it big time coming from nothing.

If you have any questions feel free to ask but sorry, this is the likely reality for you
>>
>>18114392
not op, are you in ny or la? what chance does a funny and hot 29 year old have?
>>
>>18112749

Be the bad guy.

>Bad guys talk alot and love fucking monologues about nonsense that normies can't follow. Perfect for 'tisms.
>Actors willing to portray bad guys tend to get more work because everyone wants to be the hero.
>Being a bad guy is fun. Think I'm kidding? How many people watched breaking bad and supported Walt White slowly turning into Heisenberg after seeing his shitty life?
>Literally everyone who portrays "the devil" is in pretty much everything. Pick a series and I'd be willing to bet the actors who played "Crowley" and "Lucifer" on "supernatural" are in it somewhere. The same also goes to the actor who played the devil in "reaper".
>Bitches love bad guys.
>Because people expect you to be bad, after seeing you on tv, there will be less media outrage is you say something stupid, because it's not news everyone expected that shit from you in the first place.
>>
>>18114400

its not a random statistic.

if you're living with your parents in tennesee id recommend doing it for the experience.

get out here, join la casting, and have some fun.
>>
>>18114400
LA. If you're ethnic (i.e. not white) you'd have a better chance. No matter what, everyone needs to build up their credits to get signed at an agency. Only if you're ludicrously funny/hot would you have a chance being signed as a nobody. Remember, every metropolitan area has funny and hot guys/girls by the boatload. If you fit that bill, you need to stand out by being REALLY, REALLY talented. Being ethnic is also a huge plus, saying again.

If you're not even at the level of being at least SAG eligible you're not ready to seek serious representation yet
>>
>>18114400

can you post a headshot of yourself?

>>18114404

do I look like a bad guy though? >>18114301
and >>18114276
>>
>>18114392

just for reference, can you give examples of males and females you find a. hot and b. 'charactery'
>>
>>18114566
i don't have headshots, i'm just

>ludicrously funny/hot

and wondered what my chances would be if i took that road
>>
>>18114623

I said headshot but I really meant any pic in general.

Im just curious becausel I dont know who the attractive guys are
>>
>>18114611
It's more important in TV, but hot basically means very attractive, like George Clooney or Brad Pitt or Scarlett Johannson, while charactery is kind of like ugly (or interesting/unconventional face/personality), like Kristen Schaal, Steve Buscemi, Gary Busey
