I'm 26 and have been living on my own and paying my own rent since I've been old enough to do so. I currently live in a SHIT college town with my boyfriend and am so fed up! First of all, if you're not a college student in this town, good fucking luck! Most of the "affordable" housing here is for students only. Second, I put affordable in quotes because nothing here is affordable. The cheapest thing you'll find a room you can rent for around $1000. If you are lucky enough to find something in your price range that is for more than just students and isn't just renting a room, you better not have any pets! Lastly, and this is actually where I would like some in put because I just can't wrap my mind around this, why does the rent for these places go up when two people are on the lease? If I want to rent a room the rent for one person is $650, ad in another person and it's not $725 per person! The value of that one room doesn't go up because I now have less space. If I want a one bedroom, it's $1000 for one person and $1100 for two. what the actual fuck?!

1. Of course housing is expensive in college towns, there is extremely high demand
2. Leases get more expensive with more people because there is more risk assumed by having multiple tenants
Why don't you just move?

"Why don't you just move?"
That's what I'm trying to do. One of the things I'm stressing about, but didn't list is moving to a new town with no promise of a job. I'm stuck between staying in this over priced town with my shit pay job, or moving to a less expensive town and needing to find a new shit pay job in time to pay rent for my new place.
