Life decisions

I am 19 years old, at the army (ending in summer 2018) and I'm already starting to plan what I'm gonna do with my life after that.

The thing is, I have 2 total different dreams and there's no way I can combine them nor I can choose one of them over the other.

The 1st one is to experience living in another country, (u guessed it anon, it's Japan!) and honestly I would love to spend a few years there with my friends and this special culture, I am sure that I'll manage there, my Japanese is more than enough.

The 2nd one is to become a doctor, I love physiology and wanna know a lot more about the human body. I know it seems a bit cliche but that's just my mom inspiring me with her knowledge ever since I was a kid.

The problem is I can't do both, first of all is that studying to become a doctor is a) long as fuck (7 years where I live) b) material is very hard c) have to study for about a year prior to actually studying in uni to get my SAT and meet other requirements.

Obviously if I go to Japan when I'm 21-22 (and let's say I'm there for 2-5years), when I come back it's already pretty late to start studying to become a doctor as I'll have a shitton of other things to take care of (apartment, family, bills and many other shit).

Point of this thread is what do I go after? I'm really torn between those 2 dreams, I really like both of them, it's just that one secures me financially and the other is pure passion (not that being a doctor isn't my passion).

I may sound like a kid because that's what I am, I have zero experience with anything and I really don't know if there are other options for me.

wat do?

You can't have everything you want in life. Sometimes you have to sacrifice things.
>>
>>18091359
I know, that's why I am writing this thread, how do I decide?
>>
>>18091380
Well one option sets you up for life, the other is a weeb dream. Which one makes more sense to do?
>>
>>18091384
yah that's exactly was the answer I was expecting "weeb"..
Let me explain this differently.
By living abroad I am not only experiencing things I would have never be able to experience here, I'd learn a LOT about myself, about responsibility and probably figure out a couple of more things with the whole situation going. plus living aborad while being young seems insanely fun.
Especially for me, a dude living in a small country in a small village that never experienced what's it like to live in a city as big as Nagoya or Tokyo.
>>
>>18091403
If living in the city is what you want, then you don't need to move country. If living in another country is what you want, then it doesn't need to be Japan. You're not fooling anyone, you're a weeb.
>>
>>18091409
Why the fuck wouldn't it be Japan if I like it, have friends there, and know to look beyond this anime hentai things?
Looks like everyone who likes Japan/history is now a weeb, cool.
>>
Why did u ruin dudue's dreams?
>>
if you don't have preference you should go for the medical license and consider taking a year studying abroad or spend summers in japan
not sure if you could work in japan with an american medical license. might want to look that up. i'd assume not but these things are weird sometimes
>>
>>18091445
I was about to say this. You could go get your medical license, and then go to Japan when you're older/study in Japan/visit there when you're not at school.

wtf op are you a retard?
Go to college first. Give yourself a few more years to develop and to pic out your life goals. You may decide you want to do completely different shit. If not, college gives you opportunity to live abroad. Plus you can get your BA and continue in the medical field or do something else if you want.
>>
Become a doctor first. Then you can afford Japanese escorts.
>>
>>18091338
The medical field is a joke. Big pharma is partly to blame with it becoming more "consumer driven" people have blended "wants and needs" which have all the doctors bending over backwards. People will wear you out. There are too many assholes with power complexes. And I'm not talking about doctors. I'm talking about patients. If you want to know what it's like to be a doctor then read Samuel Shem's House of God. If you truly have no clue what your doing. There isn't any other book I can think of that captures the reality of being a doctor. It will erode your soul, and if you're anything less than perfect people will hold you accountable.

Doctors are in demand yes, but the ever growing rules and policies and "safety" protocols add to the cancer of red tape. You wouldn't believe how easy it is for people who have no business being in medical get a job in medical. A lot of paperwork is due to people "just needing a job" so certain processes are put in place so that Carl Dingus can feed his family. Meanwhile adding to headache for both Doctor and patient.

??? I am not gonna stay 20 for the rest of my life are you dumb? Once you get old you have some responsibilities to hold and a whole lot of shit going on so you probably won't be able to study, on the opposite side, living aboard while you're in your 20s is something I'll never get to experience if I'm going to study at uni.

I think I'll make a new thread just to make it more clear, I know my English is a bit lacking, not my mother tongue, so sorry if you guys fail to understand some stuff, thanks for commenting.

Study in Japan, problem solved.
>>
>>18091338
You're 19 dude .. living in Japan for 5 yrs equals 24 when back .. if back, you never know what opportunities arise there. But if back at 24 then using 7 yrs studying = 31 yrs .. you'll have all the fucking time left in the world to be a doc .. Go Nippon is my take
>>

Apply to med school. When accepted, ask to defer admission. Take a year and teach English in Japan.
