This is all accurate, except it's cranberry juice instead of grape juice. And it needs to be pure cranberry juice, not sweetened or mixed with anything.

The peeing after sex thing is the most important one, though. It's a pain sometimes but it makes a huge difference.

Also drinking more water in general can help.

BULLSHIT same for cranberry juice. Newest research says no way this does anything. Sorry.

Have her talk to her doctor and say sex causes UTIs. Smart docs offer single dose antibiotics for after sex. Doesn't always work, but can help.

Throwing antibiotics constantly isn't a good solution, either. Not only do antibiotics also kill beneficial bacteria, using antibiotics that often will almost certainly lead to resistant strains of it. This is a huge problem in hospitals, and it's only made worse by throwing antibiotics around everywhere. If sicknesses become resistant to the antibiotics that you use for them, you're screwed.

I've had resistant strains develop on me before, and it is not fun.

The reason people take antibiotics for weeks at a time is to make sure that there are as few bacterial survivors as possible. This allows your body to clean up the rest and prevent any from escaping. This is why it is so important to not miss a dose of antibiotics. Leaving a gap in the flood makes it all the more likely for bacteria to develop resistance.

Thereby, taking a since antibiotic pill every few days leaves tons and tons of survivors, and with each pill that you take you weed out the few that are weak to the antibiotic and leave the ones who are resistant. Those multiply (and can also share pieces of DNA with other bacteria to spread resistances), and pretty soon you have an infection that is completely immune to the antibiotic.

Then let's say you try another antibiotic. Same thing happens. Now you have a strain of bacteria that is resistant to two. Keep going and you end up with bacteria that resist all sorts of antibiotics and become untreatable.

Just wanted to say I appreciate everyone's input. Gf has said as much to me before re: uti's, peeing and cranberry juice but at the back of my mind I couldn't help wonder if she wasn't just trying to spare my feelings. Seeing everyone say as much has me feeling less insecure now.
