i want to move to America i think. wheres good and how can you establish yourself in the land of dreams? im white Australian so i dont think it would be to hard to fit in anywhere.

ive got $4000 to my name and about $2000 more invested so not a whole lot to start.
>>
Well what kind of exp you looking for. Small town, or large city? What kind of climate? We have deserts, forests, plains, pretty much any kind you'd like.

I've lived in various spots all across this country so I'll be helpful as much as I can.
>>
Forgot to add what kind of job skills you have ?
>>
>>18030728

I'll offer you two hundred dollars a month to share a room with me in my large 2 bedroom apartment in hollywood. we can also get fake married so that you can legally work ehre, and after 2 years, you'd be allowed to divorce me and still be a citizen.

the only thing is you'd have to tell me stories with your australian accent and let me eat out your ass / suck your nipples.

alternatively you can get the same deal with your own room but you'd have to pay 1150 a month.
>>
>>18030728
It totally blows over here right now. Everybody literally cries about everything everyday.
>>
>>18030758
wew lad
>>
>>18030728

dont make any plans, Trump will be banning Aussies it seems after his disastrous phonecalls with your PM. prepare for war.
>>
>>18030752
im thinking new england, i want a sort of rural town with a cool climate. alaska sort of looked good but idk.

are there any areas that have snowfall and considerable forestry?

>>18030754
right, i program in java, c++ and various scripting languages as needed. skills are mainly in app development, code optimisation and database management

>>18030758
see if you were serious id agree to this but i feel like this is straight out of a movie or something
>>
>Implying cheeto jesus will let anyone in the country.
You'll have to pay a hefty personal "donation" to one of his businesses to get him to let you in the country.
>>
>>18030778
Alright man. New England ain't bad, winters are a bit longer and harsher than I'd like but the trade off is a pretty nice summer typically. How much a fan of snow are ya? Like how long a winter would you want. If you want forestry and that kind of environment without the winters I'd say Oregon, or Northern California would be good. Also would match your job skills you stick to Portland or the larger cities in north cal, or some of the mid ones.
>>
>>18030778
Mins read ya.

Alaska If you want forestry and a lot of snow. Everywhere else with large snowfall has deciduous tress and the forest becomes quite depressing during the winter.
>>
>>18030778
Come to Minnesota in the winter. It'll knock that "snow is so great" sparkle right out of your damn eyes
>>
>>18030795
Moved from Nevada to Ohio middle of winter. Showed up in shorts. Had no jacket heavier than a thick hoodie. Was rough. A couple years of that was enough for me. I couldn't do that white hell of Minnesota
>>
America's in a pretty crappy situation currently. I'd suggest you give it a little while until everything settles down before really deciding weather or not to actually move here.

If you do decide to move New Hampshire is doing pretty well depending on many thing. There's always work available somewhere here and its also very pretty up farther north. There's not many big cities as we are a pretty small state. If you're looking for more cities then head towards Massachusetts.
>>
>>18030800
Bruh. Bruuhhhhh.

OP I'm kidding, I don't even think in Australia you could buy the gear you would need to live up here. (IT'S REAL NICE IN THE SUMMER AND FALL, THOUGH)
>>
>>18030778

>see if you were serious

i am half serious. i open my doors to cute foreigners fro mtime to time. nothing i said was a lie, those would be the rents i charge based on what room you'd take. i made a similar offer to a curly haired guy from new zealand but he was so fucking annoying i didnt want to have to deal with that.

but i love the accents and live to eat ass.

really do have a two bedroom in hollywood,
>>
>>18030771
idk, the letter from dep of state on Australia day seems to show they still wish to keep ties with us. i agree that call was a disaster and i blame both people for it honestly.

>>18030790
im a huge snow fan, i suppose growing up without any makes you want it. japan in the winter for example is one of my favourite memories. how hot does north california tend to get? there seems to be a lot of tech start ups there which would be good for jobs. never actually knew much about portland.

>>18030792
true, whats the typical sort of job availability in alaska?

>>18030795
obviously not blizzard tier snow but even then it sounds somewhat fun. you could pickle vegetables in the warmer months and survive off them while being snowed in
>>
>>18030815
Okay well we can go outside when it blizzards. MN has some (obnoxiously) efficient infrastructure when it comes to making sure things are business as usual when it snows. That's why when states in the south get some flurries people act like it's the end times but up here we don't even flinch until we get like a foot and a half in one night.
But hey, if you like snow, we've got it
>>
>>18030815
We'll I'm no expert, but I'd say Alaska probably doenst have much need for data folks like you, being a smaller state without to many companies headquartered there. But also it could bc probably not a lot of data people like you there. I'd recommend making sure you have a job before immigrating tho to be on the safe side. Wish I could be more help to ya
>>
>>18030815
Ohio ain't too bad. Some winters are mild. Some aren't. Plenty of jobs typically and generally a lower cost of living outside like Cincinnati and Columbus. I live in a smaller town called Ashland between a few larger towns/smaller cities. I pay 485 a month in rent for a roomy 2 bedroom. That's rent tho not buying.
>>
>>18030851
nah thats still solid advice. as much as i like the look of alaska as well as the free bribe cash like
>>18030802
sort of pointed out nh actually has quite a few openings for programmers and sql database management. of course id have to apply for them first and probably wont get them because why would you hire international people
>>
just take my offer OP. come live in los angeles. isntant greencard.

marry me.
>>
>>18030728
fuck off, we're full
>>
>>18030771
>breaking the US-Aus alliance over a phone call
Do you just believe everything you read?
>>
>>18030865
oh right gay marriage is legal there. well it sounds tempting but what about a job? hollywood seems so different to me in terms of getting work.
>>
>>18030728
Australia is probably just as good as here. We are both civilized 1st world countries.
>>
>>18030902

well it depends on what you'd like to do. its got a diverse job field, and if you marry me you'd be able to get any job you're qualified for (as opposed to a work visa which insists you work only in one field).

just to pay the bills there are four places that practically instant hire anyone who shows up. most are short term or at least high turnover cuz they're shitty jobs, but they are at least something to bring money in while you look for what suits you best.

what do you do in oz right now? what would you like to do eventually?
>>
>>18030907
yeah but spiders
>>
>>18030907
Maybe he aspires to own firearms one day
>>
>>18030912
like i said programming and database management but in the end id like to get more into programming ai.
>>
>>18030945

>like i said

i aint reading every single fucking post

>programming and database management

plenty of room out here for that.
>>
fuck off we're full
>>
>>18030814
I was going to tell you to avoid the west coast and this is why.

>>18030778
As a Massachusetts native I can tell you the best place would be either southern New Hampshire where it's relatively cheap for the area, and you're not far from Boston for city fun. The cape is only another hour from Boston and is awesome during the summer with tons of houses that rent for vacations and Vermont is right next door with beautiful forests and mountains. You get the extremes of all 4 seasons (which I think is best) and you get a bit of every possible lifestyle the world could offer all the while being close to a large well known city and far away enough to escape to the "country side"

New England is literally the best place on earth to live.

Except for Rhode Island, don't ever go there.
>>
>>18030883
im pretty sure it was just sarcastic wishful thinking.

but seriously, war with austrailia when?
>>
Stay the fuck away from:
-Southern California.
-All major cities especially NYC.
-Entire southeast quarter of the country.
-The Great Lakes area.

Try to settle in:
-A middle-density part of Colorado.
-West coast, any place significantly north of San Francisco.
-Northern non-coastal states (if cold weather is fine.)
-The living parts of Texas (if hot weather is fine, but don't bother with the hottest parts.)

Try to visit in good company:
-Nature sites in northern California and low-population states
-Some place that isn't famous at all but has damn good hunting.
-Las Vegas, don't bother with the slot machines just do shows and buffets.
-Alaska, but don't settle there just go on a cruise someday.
>>
>>18030993
whats wrong with major cities?
>>
>>18031014
beggars everywhere

muggers everywhere

filth and disease everywhere

mayors issue stand-down orders to police the moment the buses full of "demonstrators" start rolling into town

gun laws only apply to people with jobs

Obamacare is a pyramid scheme

You will get a job in the city and then the government will clean your employer's bank out, causing your paychecks to bounce. Happens all the goddamn time in California just like former soviet socialist republics. The firm didn't fail by honest means; some agency or courthouse just randomly creeps in and guts them one day.
>>
>>18031035

Holy shit is that true?
