I'm blue about the state of the country. Everything is so chaotic and people are getting violent and just increasing this dividing rhetoric. My personal life is fine, but this has been sucking up my attention. Am I overreacting?

>My personal life is fine
This should be the biggest factor

You are falling for the trap of believing what you see on the news is what is happening everywhere.
The US isn't happy about Trump's election but it's blown out of proportion by the media who want the highest ratings and who want to sell newspapers by giving viewers what they want, which, at the moment, happens to be the back-and-forth of political sentiment.
Nothing's going to happen. Trump will likely turn out to be a decent enough president in the short term, and everyone will get over it and just vote him out at the next opportunity.

>why do people have different opinions
>why can't we all just get along???
>all this hatred is so saaad :'^(((
>put aside the rhetoric and get round the debating table

Turn off the tv and hide all your friends who post politics on bookface. Its really that simple. Once you stop the constant bombardment of political alarmism you can go back to focusing on your life.

Stop following the news, stop going on fb.
Listening to the news gives you this fake idea that you are doing something about it, but it's passive and makes you angsty.

No, being engaged in politics, especially really controversial upheavals in politics like what is going on in the U.S., is not overreacting. Shutting off all news will just make you ignorant of important events. But being engaged in politics is different than just drowning under the by-the-minute news updates. Take 3 times a day to look at news and ignore it otherwise, and find something that gives you some efficacy and do it. Volunteer for your party once a week or join a grassroots organization. You will feel like you have more agency and thus the political climate will worry you less.

As someone who's 5000+ miles away from where you are, yes, pretty much most of you are overreacting. About most things. Constantly.
