Is there an easy way to tell if you're becoming emotionally dependent on someone? And if so, how do I stop?

Man or woman?

I'm a man and so is the other person. It is a romantic thing though

In that case you probably are. On a scale of 1-10 how capable would you be to see him walk away from the relationship?

I think he's the only thing going right in my life right now so probably around 1 or a 2

Okay, yeah. After saying that, I think I definitely am emotionally dependent. What the fuck should I do?

Being emotionally dependent is a part of the journey.
All for you to enjoy
most of us are emotionally dependent, and that's normal. it's just best to be emotionally dependent on more than one object or person or idea, so that when it's gone you are not flung into despair

Pretty much this. Also obsessions don't "disappear", they transform into other obsessions after a while, sometimes unconsciously. That's how it is for me at least. That's why people who are trying to smoke start chewing gum and shit instead of smoking - it's a substitute. Instead of giving this guy 100% of your focus, "transform" that focus and disperse it over many things like hobbies, projects, etc. Don't let it transform to depression.
