Pretty much this. Also obsessions don't "disappear", they transform into other obsessions after a while, sometimes unconsciously. That's how it is for me at least. That's why people who are trying to smoke start chewing gum and shit instead of smoking - it's a substitute. Instead of giving this guy 100% of your focus, "transform" that focus and disperse it over many things like hobbies, projects, etc. Don't let it transform to depression.
