I have a tumblr using, turbo liberal, feminist friend. She's actually a really nice person when she's not going on about politics, but now she's gone too far. She literally supports the violent riots that happened last night in Berkeley. Saying that they have a right to get violent if they're being threatened, and Milo Yiannopoulos giving a speech, naturally, she considers a threat. I usually just ignore the crazy things she says, but I feel like I have to say something here. Whether or not you like Milo, I'm pretty sure my friend is literally and unironically supporting domestic terrorism.

How can I talk to her about this? I don't want to make her mad and make her not like me, I'm not trying to "redpill" her or anything. I just want her to quit being so crazy.

This entire election has divided everyone and caused chaos. I stopped using Facebook and avoid anything political because it's fucking crazy now. Be safe out there and try to talk some sense to your friend. Tumblr is a bad place to be.

I don't know her of course, but what's stopping you from telling her you disagree with her?
Knowing a friend of hers doesn't support those acts may actually help her, and it wouldn't necessarily end your friendship.
I openly told my liberal friends I tought Trump was a better candidate than Clinton and found they seemed to respect me more when I had the courage to tell them I disagreed with them.

Please, send us all your dissenters. Label anyone who questions even the minute things and racists or fascists. Alienate them to the point where only /pol/ will take them.

Here's Umberto Eco's early warning signs:

"The Cult of Tradition", characterized by cultural syncretism, even at the risk of internal contradiction. When all truth has already been revealed by Tradition, no new learning can occur, only further interpretation and refinement.

"The Rejection of modernism", which views the rationalistic development of Western culture since the Enlightenment as a descent into depravity. Eco distinguishes this from a rejection of superficial technological advancement, as many fascist regimes cite their industrial potency as proof of the vitality of their system.

"The Cult of Action for Action's Sake", which dictates that action is of value in itself, and should be taken without intellectual reflection. This, says Eco, is connected with anti-intellectualism and irrationalism, and often manifests in attacks on modern culture and science.

"Disagreement Is Treason" – Fascism devalues intellectual discourse and critical reasoning as barriers to action, as well as out of fear that such analysis will expose the contradictions embodied in a syncretistic faith.

"Fear of Difference", which fascism seeks to exploit and exacerbate, often in the form of racism or an appeal against foreigners and immigrants.

"Appeal to a Frustrated Middle Class", fearing economic pressure from the demands and aspirations of lower social groups.

"Obsession with a Plot" and the hyping-up of an enemy threat. This often combines an appeal to xenophobia with a fear of disloyalty and sabotage from marginalized groups living within the society (such as the German elite's 'fear' of the 1930s Jewish populace's businesses and well-doings; see also anti-Semitism). Eco also cites Pat Robertson's book The New World Order as a prominent example of a plot obsession.

Fascist societies rhetorically cast their enemies as "at the same time too strong and too weak." On the one hand, fascists play up the power of certain disfavored elites to encourage in their followers a sense of grievance and humiliation. On the other hand, fascist leaders point to the decadence of those elites as proof of their ultimate feebleness in the face of an overwhelming popular will.

"Pacifism is Trafficking with the Enemy" because
"Life is Permanent Warfare" – there must always be an enemy to fight. Both fascist Germany under Hitler and Italy under Mussolini worked first to organize and clean up their respective countries and then build the war machines that they later intended to and did use, despite Germany being under restrictions of the Versailles treaty to NOT build a military force. This principle leads to a fundamental contradiction within fascism: the incompatibility of ultimate triumph with perpetual war.

"Contempt for the Weak", which is uncomfortably married to a chauvinistic popular elitism, in which every member of society is superior to outsiders by virtue of belonging to the in-group. Eco sees in these attitudes the root of a deep tension in the fundamentally hierarchical structure of fascist polities, as they encourage leaders to despise their underlings, up to the ultimate Leader who holds the whole country in contempt for having allowed him to overtake it by force.

"Everybody is Educated to Become a Hero", which leads to the embrace of a cult of death. As Eco observes, "[t]he Ur-Fascist hero is impatient to die. In his impatience, he more frequently sends other people to death."

cont
>>
>>18015420
>>18015566

"Machismo", which sublimates the difficult work of permanent war and heroism into the sexual sphere. Fascists thus hold "both disdain for women and intolerance and condemnation of nonstandard sexual habits, from chastity to homosexuality."

"Selective Populism" – The People, conceived monolithically, have a Common Will, distinct from and superior to the viewpoint of any individual. As no mass of people can ever be truly unanimous, the Leader holds himself out as the interpreter of the popular will (though truly he dictates it). Fascists use this concept to delegitimize democratic institutions they accuse of "no longer represent[ing] the Voice of the People."

"Newspeak" – Fascism employs and promotes an impoverished vocabulary in order to limit critical reasoning.

>She literally supports the violent riots that happened last night in Berkeley. Saying that they have a right to get violent if they're being threatened

Firstly, this a topic for /pol/ not /adv/.

Secondly, every one on every side of this is a fucking hypocrite.

For every person living on this planet there is a social, economic or political issue they feel so strongly about that they would respond with violence if they feel like their rights were threatened. Everyone has a different benchmark for a just cause.

Everyone. Every turbo-conservative who hems and haws about violence and rioting being un-American and domestic terrorism would pick up a fucking torch and pitchfork if they thought their guns were in danger or their churches were in danger or if someone was coming to their home town to preach something that went against every fiber of their being.

So to sit here and pretend like you're above responding to contrary movements with violence is retarded.

I'm not on either side of the issue. I don't care either way. What I am trying to say is that its very very easy to dismiss things like this when you don't have a dog in the fight. Its human nature to not care about things you don't relate to. I get it. I do it all the time.

I don't like in Thailand so I don't care about sweatshops. You don't live in Canada so you don't care about the people who die waiting for their terrible national healthcare. Its the truth.

Everyone has something they'd riot over. Everyone has something they'd fight to protect.

Whether or not you think those things are legitimate or they're justified in their response is irrelevant. What IS relevant is the fact that if people keep approaching the discussion table with the refusal to even momentarily try to put yourself in the other person's shoes we're just going to keep going round and round in this retarded circle of people who will never come to a consensus because everyone thinks they're better than the other side.

Which ones? The wall? Do you want ILLEGAL immigrants in your country? If so pay for their shit instead of the government. Do you want drugs dealers in the border? I don't think so.
About the immigrat ban from 7 countries.
The Obama administration had already targeted those 7 countries as dangerous as fuck because of terrorists. What trump did was stop them from getting to the USA for 90 days until his team can figure out a plan to weed out terrorists from normal people. And no it's not a ban against Muslims. Saudi Arabia and Egypt can go to America freely as before.
So go suck a big fat dick redditor and read 1984. That's exactly what for politically correct society is doing to this world.

>While your on it google the definition of racist.

I'm not the poster you were responding to but I'm just going to chime in and say that, from what I've understood, the definition has changed.

People think that the textbook definition of racism is the only type of ignorance you can perpetuate and that just isn't correct.

Here is what I will say. I cannot categorically prove that our president is racist. What I can say is we can all agree that racism doesn't bother him that much. It took him days to come out and say he disavowed a KKK leader but fucking 20 minutes to hop on his twitter and bash a theater troupe for addressing his lego-haired VP.

Trump may not be a racist but he surely isn't an anti-racist. You and I both know that Trump would gladly invite a racist into a meeting or on his cabinet if he thought he could benefit from it. He surely has done a terrible job of distancing himself from and condemning those who are proven racists and in fact its a genius tactic because he knows that supremacists and nationalists are a large part of his base. All he has to do is not actively come out against them and he's in their good graces.

Racism has kind of turned into this very dull roar where people think that just because they don't actively hate or discriminate against minorities that they're good to go but in the same breath remain silent when their friends say racist things or let racism occur around them because speaking out about it would make them the black sheep in a lot of their communities. In truth, I understand the pressure. Being vocal about racism can be uncomfortable, and if you're white it sometimes puts you at odds with the minorities that are too proud or too aggressive to accept your support and the other whites that will call you a liberal crybaby or SJW race-baiter for siding with minorities.

Racism today is not stringing up black folk, its selling people the rope and looking the other way.

>Which ones? The wall? Do you want ILLEGAL immigrants in your country?

Every study performed and statistic gathered has proven unequivocally that the wall is not only a financial money pit but will do very little to affect the flow of illegal immigration.

Only a small percentage of illegals still actually travel to the U.S. physically on the ground.

One has to ask oneself why the president is so deadset on an expensive idea that every expert has said won't be very affective.

Look up the story of the fence that George Bush tried to build. It was an utter financial and logistical disaster.

>What trump did was stop them from getting to the USA for 90 days until his team can figure out a plan to weed out terrorists from normal people. And no it's not a ban against Muslims. Saudi Arabia and Egypt can go to America freely as before.

People are critical of this policy because he didn't just stop immigration from these countries, he told people who are legal citizens of the U.S. who originate from these countries that they can't come in.

People who have homes here. People who are registered to vote. Essentially he told legal citizens of the United States, the ones who went through the citizenship process and were accepted that they can't come home.

Its also strange to people that he left out a lot of muslim countries that he has business interests in, like Saudi Arabia (where all the hijackers from 9/11 came from). They execute homosexuals and are a hotbed for terrorist activity yet they are curiously left off the list in anticipation of the saudi prince coming to visit next week.

So while you claim that anyone who suspects a racial motivator in this confusing executive order from the president is some whiny political correct mind washed citizen from 1984 you completely miss the irony of essentially force feeding your explanation to them as the only one and not leaving any room for asking questions.

That mindset sounds a lot more like 1984 to me.

Jokes on you. It's literally biology. Every animal prefers the company of their similars. And no. Blacks, arabs, Asians are racist as well deep down everyone is a racist. >frames all racism as white against non-white

Incorrect. Don't strawman me, just ask me what context I'm speaking in and I'll tell you.

We were talking about Trump, yes? Trump is the president of the United States, therefore I'm talking about racism in the context of the United States and here in the United States the oldest, most turbulent and tense racial relationship has been between blacks and whites. When you say "racism" in America thats what everyone's minds jump to and rightly so. Its a very hot topic right now.

I'm merely addressing the elephant in the room. If you would like to talk about smaller elephants I'm more than happy to but don't misrepresent my words.

Also, I don't really consider black on white "racism" you're referring to on equal level with white on black. Black hostility towards white communities and cultures is 400 year old knee-jerk reaction. You push someone for long enough and they tend to push back.

If you think that slavery, segregation and the civil rights movement still hasn't left a bad taste in black people's mouths you need to do some historical research. There are still black people alive who remember being blasted with firehoses and bitten with police dogs.

Lets just say there's still a bit of bad blood which is only exacerbated by a lot of people just refusing to acknowledge that the bad blood still exists. Communities like blacks and native americans just get kind of a "Hey, that happened a long time ago, get over it" and I can understand why that pisses them off so much.
>>

>Also, I don't really consider black on white "racism" you're referring to on equal level with white on black.

>Why? Wasn't the old one good enough?

Times change. Words change. Society changes. Good enough has nothing to do with it. Using dictionary definitions as a justification for refusing to adapt or acknowledge societal shifts is very backwards. Very backwards and silly.

>Every animal prefers the company of their similars.

Humans are very complicated creatures. Lets not pretend that societal conditioning doesn't play a gigantic part in human behavior.

>Also you're implying someone is genociding minorities in the USA which is false.

Nope. Never even remotely implied that. You pulled that one out of your ass all on your own.

>Statistics show 55% of the crimes are committed by blacks

The highest indicator for crime is poverty, not race. Thats a statistical fact. Every study ever performed has shown that. There has never been a study performed that shows any proof that blacks are inherently more violent than other races. None.

>The definition of racism won't change because muh feels

Your view of the world is very nice and simple. I often wish we lived in a place of such simple metrics, where a two sentence definition could completely encapsulate the entire world history of racism without ever changing or shifting with the times or taking on shades of grey.

I wish the world were as simple as you're trying to make it to be. Where words never change and every society is just carbon copies of the same concepts. Things would be a lot simpler wouldn't they?

I have a friend like that and I just quit talking to her. I haven't spoken to her in like 2 years and we used to be best friends for like 13 years. She posted on FB a couple of weeks ago that she was literally sick because of Trump and I couldn't help but laugh to myself. You won't change their minds so there's no point in trying to talk to them about anything, period. You'll be wrong no matter how right you might be. These people, for the most part, can not be reasoned with. It works on both sides of the isle though. You won't convince a Conservative to flip either. So to each his own and ignorance is bliss.

Some people just want live a life full of anger. and I almost feel sorry for them because I used to be the same. I used to listen Rush, Mark Levine, Michael Savage, etc. and watched Fox prime time every day for years and I would just get fed up on a daily basis. A few years ago I just stopped giving a shit. You could say I'm apart of the problem but really it doesn't matter what most of us do. The political machine is going to run, regardless of who is in "control", and most of us have no say in how it runs. Frankly, most of the time it doesn't even effect most of us on a local level. Ignorance truly is bliss.

>It has nothing to do with his business interests

>To think otherwise is wishful thinking at best.

I think its real cute that you think that. I think that, with even a small amount of research you'll find all the little building permits that were passed, land deals that were finalized, hotel constructions that were announced and all little backroom deals and meetings with foreign dignitaries he took (while his children, who are currently running his company and have no top secret clearance were in attendance) that were made as soon as Trump was announced the winner.

For example, Trump used his status as president-elect just this last December to meet with a Scottish government official and in this meeting verbally came out against the government building a field of wind turbines.

The significance is, these turbines would be located right next to one of his golf courses. He lost several legal battles against stopping these golf courses in late 2012 as he claimed they would ruin the view of his golf resort and now, apparently, he is using his position as president to bring the issue up again and not just personally come out against their construction but implying that now that he is president, the U.S. government is not against them as well.

This is just one example.

Its really cute that, given Trump's history, you honestly believe he's willing to make decisions that negatively impact his empire for the sake of the American people.

THAT is the real wishful thinking, sir.
.

That's great. But I'm directly responding to someone who said it's "suspicious" it doesn't include Saudi Arabia. It isn't, really. We have a VERY long history of dancing around for them.

>Didn't Trump supporters hate Obama? Why are you excusing or defending his shitty policy now that Trump is going along with it?
You are making many assumptions about me and you really should stop that.

On a case by case basis generalizations can be wildly incorrect but Obama being a terrible president was a HUGE part of Trump's campaign. It was a huge part of his campaign before he even considered running.

When Obama got elected he called on people to "storm Washington" and stop his swearing in because we "couldn't allow this to happen". He called for the same thing done to Obama that he is now criticizing people for doing to him.

You can't deny that the correlation is strong.

>But I'm directly responding to someone who said it's "suspicious" it doesn't include Saudi Arabia. It isn't, really. We have a VERY long history of dancing around for them.

Its just a little curious. If his ACTUAL motivation was to keep American lives safe by stopping extremists and nothing else then why exclude Saudi Arabia?

He has had absolutely no issue trashing decades long relationships with foreign countries in his first two weeks so you can't argue that he cares about maintaining foreign relationships for the sake of tradition. He pissed off China, Japan, Scotland and Australia all in the first 10 days. So why spare Saudi Arabia? A country who harbored 90% of the 9/11 terrorists? A country that is a HOTBED for terrorist activity?

Why include people in the ban who have legal citizenship? How does stopping people who legally immigrated to this country do anything to address terrorism?

The whole thing is fishy. It doesn't add up. Whether or not you support him at all you HAVE to see the deep flaws in logic that are happening here.

No sense arguing with Trump supporters. They are literally so fucking dumb they won't recognize logic and sense when it punches them in the face.

They will always try to deflect by bringing up Obama or Hillary. Always.

Its weird because I'm not for or against anyone. I'm for facts. I'm for quantifiable patterns, statistics and data. Ignoring facts for the sake of retaining your reality is a human imperative. I understand it, but I think we all have to work to a point where the truth becomes more important than our egos.

The man has a ton of conflicts of interests and has used his position as President to influence his business. This is a fact. What that means? I don't know. All I know is that I don't believe in coincidences.

You can't deny facts. They're there. You just have to open your eyes and see them. Its okay to support Trump and still acknowledge that he's doing some things wrong or he has some flaws. I don't know why it has to be one or the other.

I am normally with you, anon, but I am 100% against Trump. I don't think of myself as a conservative or a liberal or a Republican or a democrat. Just someone who is rabidly anti Trump.

I think he's immoral, careless, dangerous, stupid, and dishonest. I think we would have been literally better off throwing a rock in the street and whoever it hits gets to be president.

What happen to free speech? as much as I hate feminist I still believe they also have the right to free speech.
>>
>>18015349
>the left is against free speech that's why they're using their first amendment right to protest

Can ya give me a source that says that citizens can't come back here? Everywhere I read said that citizens wouldn't be affected, only people applying for visas.

It's not that I think you are wrong, I just want to be able to read with my own eyes what's going on.

The EO was badly worded and it was not vetted by a legal team, so there was a lot of confusion about who was allowed back in or not. People with green cards - legal residents - were detained as a result. They exempted green card holders today.

It was a giant fuck up from a giant fuck up administration.

>What happen to free speech?

You're misrepresenting the idea of free speech.

Free speech legally protects people to say what they want, not protect them from the consequences of your words.

Want to be a gay feminist and give a speech at a Mormon colony? You won't be welcome there.

Want to be a far-right anti-feminist hate monger and give a speech at a west coast liberal college? You won't be welcome there.

Want to be a black lives matter protester and give a speech at a KKK rally? You won't be welcome there.

Why is this such a difficult concept for you to understand? Free speech is not a welcome to speak anywhere.

Tell a man you want to fuck his wife in the shitter and you'll be free to say it but don't call the man a "violent protester" when he breaks your fucking nose. Its basic human mechanics.

I'm so sick of you fuckers claiming that people should be allowed to kick hornets nests in places where they're not wanted and then act shocked when people revolt. Life doesn't work that way, kid.

There are tons of places where he would be welcome to make his speeches but he purposefully chooses places where he knows people will protest and give him ammunition to lob at them because deep down he's a fucking opportunist like every other twitter famous public figure with a small scope of marketable skills.

He's just like Ann Coulter and Tohmi Lahren. He says outrageous, offensive and controversial shit and sticks his bullshit in places he knows where he isn't wanted because the only way he knows how to market himself is through outrage. I'm shocked that so many of you dimwits can't put that together.

This explains it pretty well.

People will green cards are allowed to work and required to pay taxes. They are allowed to own guns and conceal them. They are legal citizens who did exactly what all the conservatives insisted they do; go through the lengthy process of legal immigration and become legal citizens of the United States.

The fact that the administration was so quick to implement this ban that they actually forgot to not detain legal citizens of this country speaks VOLUMES about its incompetence.
>>
>>18016005
Although you are wrong about green card holders being citizens, I do agree that it's fucked up to detain them.

Though it seems that they fixed it, so it was obviously not intended.
