take what you like and reverse engineer it.
reading comics? draw comics.
reading book? write books.
watch movies? make a movie
watch tv? make a web series.
sitting in chairs? build a chair.
listening to music? learn an instrument.
watching youtube videos? make youtube videos.
playing vidyah? make a vidyah.
>>17947073
drawing comics takes decade to learn. Same for writing books and making movies. I'm not saying you can't enjoy those, but I think you'd need to have a passion to be willing to put so many hours into an activity, they are not hobbies you pick up because you're kinda bored
>>17947157
>they're not hobbies you pick up when you're kinda bored
they literally are. they have an event called nanowrimo where tons of first itme writers write a book in just one month.
is it publish worthy? no. but thats not what were talking about here. were talking about doing something to pass the time and have fun.
you can pump out a book in a week if you got nothing to do all day, and ive seen people do it.
you want to know the best way to learn how to draw comics? by drawing your first comic.
just because its not going to be immediately good doesn't mean it wont be fun.
you can make a movie in a week as paranormal activity has taught us.
you need to learn to do something just for fun.
one time i wanted to make a video game., downloaded rpgmaker, spent a month making it, bam, done.
it doesn't take a decade to learn how to write a book. how to write one worth publishing, sure but this isnt about that, its about having fun.
and if you enjoy doing it, you might just enjoy doing it ten years from now so why not start now?
>>17947073
super good advice right here anons.
for example even if youre a complete weeb you could learn to draw manga or transfer your skills into making anime vidya or something.
even if you just enjoy sitting at a computer just learn to code or something
Shit, that's a nice view on gondola.
Makes me think of the role that memes have evolved to play. Just last year two memes took a life of their own. Gondola and pepe/KEK, makes me wonder if we are not actually creating a sort of alternate reality by our inputs in this meme field.
Anyway, some hobbies that I'm interested in this year are:
sculpting
archery
World creation
Roleplaying
Some other hobbies I've had in the past:
drawing
writing
star gazing
programming
Also interesting:
cooking
foraging
carpentry
blacksmithing gardening
marital arts
Fuck there's a lot of things you can do

I disagreed with you because I've seen a lot of people becoming frustrated, and even beecoming depressive, because they were not satisfied with their art. You need to spend at least years making garbage before doing something good.
If op gets that trough his head, he will enjoy himself, and probably become a good artist.
But if he doesn't, he'll be one of those /ic/ failures, forever bitter about what could've been, grinding anatomical drawings forever, without having fun or knowing why he started.
OP is a gondolaposter, thus I like him. I don't want him to suffer because of a hobby
that doesn't mean you shouldn't start those hobbies if you feel like it, but lower your expectations a bit
Is photography a good hobby ?
I just picked up wood burning and it's very relaxing and satisfying. If you can draw well you will be able to woodburn easily, and it looks dope as fuck when it's done.
>>17947254
if you can afford the camera, sure
it makes you go outside and it makes you appreciate beauty a little more
and you can shitpost on /p/
If i had time for a hobby right now i'd pick up boxing, i loved boxing but stopped because of my studies
You could do a martial art OP, it's really fun
It's like playing tekken, guilty gear or street fighter but with even more depth (but less fancy super powers)
pls rate my hobbies
>1-2 hours piano a day
>1-2 hours of reading a day
>2-4 hours shitposting a day
>lift 3 times a week
>run 3 times a week
>muay thai twice a week
And I work part time as an adult programming specialist

I'm currently improving my handwriting, and I'm also starting with aeromodelling.
This is my goal:

are you self taught in muay thai or do you have a teacher?
>>17947394
I go to a class m8
I used to draw a lot but I got to a point where the amount of effort I'd need to put in to improve was such that I just gave up and stopped.
Nowadays I spend most of my free time playing videogames.
try some tabletop gaming! Theres no better time to get into warhammer with the way Games workshop is going right now

>Theres no better time to get into warhammer with the way Games workshop is going right now
I wanted to get into Warhammer fantasy but then AoS happened

It depends on what kind of literature you read
>>17947338
pretty good, bro, though it depends on which books you read. You have the mental / physical / creative corners of the well rounded triangle covered.
I'd say that you should have something more unique than reading for mental though.....chess, poker, building electronics, etc.
>>17947444
I am reading war and peace right now. My next book will be pic related.
From there gulag archipelago and then maybe mason&dixon or gravitys rainbow. Mostly read 'classic' literature, I can't think of anything I have read in the last two years published after 1996.
>>17947447
You know I actually got to the point where I narrowed it down to either chess or piano to make a permanent fixture of my life. I had one giant folder for chess books/applications/strategy/game videos and one for piano books/instructional video series.
Chose piano in the end because Bill Evans is my all time favorite musician and I have always wanted to play Moon Beams by heart.
Excuse the blog lads
Reading, fitness, martial art, drawing, playing an instrument, magic, coding, cardistry, making music
>>17947540
Are you totally self taught on piano? How good have you gotten? I'm looking into this.
How do I tell my girlfriend to give up on her chemistry class?
She has a 51% in the class and just failed the same test she took about 2 weeks ago after preparing in every way she could. She does fine on quizzes and labs but she gets Ds and Fs on most/all tests.
The worst part is that if she doesnt get her F up to a C her parents are threatening to take away her social life completely. I dont see her ever because she is always busy workign on school or her internship. I dont know what to tell her or what to say anymore
>>17947540
>From there gulag archipelago
try varlam shalamov instead
>>17947262
Not OP but that looks dope, whats the tools required to do this kind of stuff? High starting cost?
>>17947916
Low low starting costs, you can get everything you need for like $20-$50. You can burn any wood that isn't chemically treated so even just slices of logs and stuff which are free if you have fallen trees and a saw.
Writing Writing Writing
Astronomy/Skywatching
Dungeons & Dragons
Video Games
Noway I'll find the time for everything but I certainly wish I could.
At the very least, writing and video games are possible and astronomy isn't exactly hard to pick up. Just buy a couple of books, a telescope and spend time with the kid.

>The worst part is that if she doesnt get her F up to a C her parents are threatening to take away her social life completely.
How old is this girl?
>>17947800
Yeah self taught. Rates for a piano teacher where I live is like $30 every 30 minutes so fug that. Been practicing for about two months. Not sure how to judge how good I have gotten, my mommy enjoys when I play for her.
Learn & Master piano with will barrow is what I have primarily been using for learning. Also reading some books for supplementary material. All of this is easily available on TPB or torrent website of your choice. Also got some apps, music tutor is my favorite for sight reading practice.
>>17947901
b-but I thoroughly enjoyed Ivan Denisovich and wanted more.

Dude I did a ton of research at first and this guy who is extremely talented said the best tool on the market is literally the $25 walnut hallow Versa tool kit at Michaels. The kit gives you all the points (tips for the pen) but you'll mainly use the universal tip the whole time. If you want to get into it make sure you sand the heel a bit first or it gets stuck in the wood. Good luck homie pick it up and just do it it's really fun. Smells good and is good stress relief.
Pic related another piece I made.
I started doing crosswords. It is dope af...and people think you are supersmart because they dont know how to do them.
