I fucked up
I majored in economics because of pressure from my parents and now I'm stuck with a degree I don't want.
I've had two jobs since graduating, both are soul crushing office jobs where I sat/sit in a cubicle from 8-4:30. Every day I come home and watch King of the Hill or the Simpsons for about four hours until it's time for me to go to sleep to make sure I get up in time to make it to work.
My hobbies don't interest me anymore, the only two friends I have do nothing but play league of legends all day every day for the past 6 years and have become increasingly aggressive when you try and convince them to do something else.
I can't remember the last time I was happy and I don't know what to do. Where to I go from here? How do I break this cycle? Do I try to get the money to go back to school to get another degree? Do I take my money and use it up until I run out and then kill myself?
I've tried talking to my parents about this but they just insist that it'll all get better if I keep working hard in a job that I hate to make more money that I don't even need/use. They're immigrants so to them money and status is everything.
How do I become happy /adv/? how do people do the same thing I do every day but are perfectly fine with their lives?
>has a college degree and decent job
>still complains
what the fuck, i would literally kill to be in your position, maybe you need some perspective, your are better off than 99% planet earth, also fuck you
>>17938257
>you're not allowed to ask for help because people have it worse than you
I guess I came to the wrong board
>>17938119
It's your life. Fuck your parents. Get a new degree. Worst case scenario is that you won't make it with the new career, and you can just go back to your old job. It'll suck but at least you'll always have a plan B. Then rinse and repeat.
>>17938119
I feel you bro, sorry
>>17938119
>how do people do the same thing I do every day but are perfectly fine with their lives?
do drugs and get a gf, start saving up money to invest in some business you would like to do.
Did I black out and type this holy shit
>>17938286
are you in the same situation as me?
have you found any way to cope?
Instead of watching television for so long you could cut that time down and try to look for hobbies that interest you. It sucks that your friends are so obsessed with league so while finding hobbies you could also try and make new friends. It seems like what you're doing now is making your parents proud though so that's good.
I'm a sophomore majoring in econ. What would you have studied instead?
>>17938119
it sounds like youre upset about what you do after work. if you cant change what you do after work how in the hell do you expect to change what you do during work.
>>17938257
How can you expect him to be happy just because he has a decent job and a degree? Not all of us find fulfillment in money and staus.
>>17938351
I wish I became a history, political science, or religion teacher. Hell I even have a minor in political science
Teach at some highschool or middle school somewhere about my favorite subject, maybe try to coach their football team even though I've never played
I barely enjoyed economics in college, my parents pressured me into it because I wasn't smart enough for engineering or physics and not dedicated enough to do medicine

An economics degree is awful to have, and it is not that hard to even get a degree. why would you even berate someone on /adv/ for using the board's purpose?
Look for new hobbies. Anything that even slightly interest you, attend classes for it and learn something new.
You need something to look forward in life other than 4 hours of simpsons.
You got a job and a degree anon, do something with that fucking money.
try writing graffiti

1. What do you want to be when you grow up?
2. What would you have to do to get there?
3. Do it.

Honestly dude, all you need to teach grades 12 and under is a bachelor's, and a teacher certification. I proctor the exams that aspiring teachers take to get their certification. I can't tell you how many people I talk to every day who are in their 40s or 50s and want to teach, but are getting their certs in something completely unrelated to what they went to college for. They studied their asses off for their chosen subject, and if they passed the test, they're able to teach. Now finding a job? Not really that tough, either. There's a massive teacher shortage all over the place.
If teaching is your dream, reach out to your state education board for guidance on how to start down that path.
>>17938446
Thanks anon, I know a teacher too I'll look into it
>>17938365
Don't give up hope anon! Keep going! Since you enjoy teaching, what you can do is go back to school to finish political science as a major and teach. Don't give up your job until you can get a teaching position. If you're dedicated, try to get up to professor level. Go into research. Write for academic journals, do what you love to do. It will help you forget the loneliness. use the money from your current job to pay for school or otherwise keep you on your feet. Good luck!
>I sat/sit in a cubicle from 8-4:30
Fuck you, I work 9-8
Don't waste your free time, use it to work out and socialize

How to shake things up
- Start your career over (trying to use your past experience if you can)
- Go back to school
- Quit and travel for a few months (same cost as living where you live now, except for a plane ticket)
- Find a new job at a better company and make new friends from work
- Start dating (try OKC)

Read a good book, something about coming of age
You are stuck in the routine, you need to expand your mind, save enough money so you can spare having a part time job, with more free time try to read to expand your point of view about the world, involve yourself in activities that allows you to meet new people, do some mediation or something that relax you, try to see the world from a different point of view.
And if that doesn't work, just chill out and remember

You watch TV for four hours?
Dude... You can't complain if you won't take control over your habits.
Go apply for some VC internships / etc. There's a billion things you can do. Work out. Dump your friends.
Live your life and not your parents' dreams.

Only because by the time. Even if get home it's 6:30 and I would have spent two hours in bumper to bumper traffic. I still lift twice a week but that only takes an hour per session
>>17938588
*by the time I even get home
>>17938588
Dude, number one is to find a job where the commute is less than 30 min/day. Move if you have to.
>>17938607
Been trying for about 8 months I think, only got one offer in a city 30 minutes away and the pay was so low that it wasn't enough to afford parking in the city. Combine that with tolls and I would have been paying to go to work. I explained that to them when they told me my salary and they took it as a personal insult and hung up on me
>>17938629
Link your resume, and also where are you looking?
>>17938257
Fuck off NEET. You're turning on your fellow slave.
Fuck your gay friends, leave them (by this I mean stop hanging out with them, don't act like a dick to them). Find new friends. Date. Work out. Working out is a great experience, just stay dedicated. Add some spice to your life. Read books. This is very important. What are you good at? That's what you should do. Do what you're good at, that will bring you happiness. If you don't want to disappoint your parents that's nice of you, but don't destroy your life for them. Respect your parents, but you have to look out for your interests. Get married and have kids. This will bring you joy. You will always have people to be with and it's unexplainable how amazing it is (you won't learn the joys of family from fucking modern Hollywood). You have no fucking hobbies, that's sad. Start trying new things instead of watching TV and don't start paying vidya. Write about your thoughts. Learn how to pay a musical instrument. Play a board game. 4 hours reading intelligent literature is much more worth it than 4 hours watching The Simpsons. Go outside and make a fire. Do it for real, get some timber, newspaper, a stone(s) and a lighter. Get into survival. Do anything but sit around and killing yourself with the television until your next shift.
Fuck bro
If you aren't worried about the quality of your work, sleeping less will give you more free time. 6 hours or less will leave you more or less 5 hours a day to do whatever the fuck.
During your commute listen to audio books. Get the starter pack from /lit/ and pirate that shit.
Axe the video-jew from your life. No TV, no YouTube, no movies, no webms. Video puts you in a passive perspective. You're too passive so this is a step in the right direction.
As long as you don't get depressed you'll be all right. To ward off depression keep lifting, eat a good diet and spend plenty of time outdoors/in a park.
Join the army if you fail

This. Idle hands are the Devil's workshop.
TV is an ancient Hebrew method of mind control. Get it out of your life, it's making you dumber and wasting your time.
Survival is actually a very nice hobby that passes the time well. There's nothing better than making a fire and watching it burn.
Your commute is 2 fucking hours? The above Anon who suggested audiobooks is genius. /lit/ starter pack is a must to pass the time and you will not regret it. Ear buds might help you out, but depending on noise levels, out loud can be a lot better.
Read books too. /lit/ starter pack. Literature will enhance your life.
Your friends sound like enormous faggots. They're boring as all hell. I know that feel. You're going to want to find new buddies now or you're going to be lonely forever. Whatever you do just don't get depressed and make sure you keep lifting.
>>17938119
get some professional counseling before you do something stupid and fuckup your life, which actually seems fairly ok
you're depressed & need some help for this
forget your loser friends video game nutters never ever grow up, someday maybe in their 30s or 40s they will say - wow where did all the time go ? boy i'm sure an expert on a zillion games but nobody cares
