My gf has been called for jury duty in a part of the country she no longer lives. Traveling there would take a long time and be expensive petrol wise. What can be done so she doesn't have to take part? Is it possible to get a defferal to where she lives now?

This. They'll work with you. If you truly do have a new residence and can prove it then they just remove you. If you can't prove you have a new residence then they'll just reschedule your date.
