Hey /adv/,
I posted this on /biz/ too because I'm not sure where it should go.
I'm fresh out of high school with pretty solid grades so I have a wide array of options. I'm interested in computer related subjects and I've been told I'm good at writing. I'd like to get into a field where I can freelance work from home. As it stands I'm considering web development or some sort of coding but I haven't started anything. I'm aware that this will need a portfolio, but I'm wondering about schooling. I'm not in any rush as I have parents will support me as long as I'm doing something to work towards my future.
My questions are: What would be the best area to focus on? And how should I learn? University? College? Entirely self taught? What is best from a practical standpoint? Where do I start?
I don't care too much about making a ton of money, I'd just like to be able to support myself and not be living off of instant ramen.

If your parents will support you by paying for college, then you need to go to college. Without a doubt. Take advantage of that hookup immediately.

college? or university? they'll do either. And for what?

Technical writing, writing the instruction books for computers or programs. Find a college English department that has a tech writing program and take it alongside computer and business classes.

That's what my mother thinks I should do. I'll look into it. Thanks
