Hey /adv/,
I'm wondering how to be a professional student, but not appear stuck-up or like I'm trying to be better than everyone else. I would, however, like students and professors to know of and respect me.
This is as much, if not more, about attitude as it is about other things, such as clothing.
I want people to expect a firm handshake and see a slight fire in my eyes. I also want to maintain confidence when I may be going on less-than-optimal sleep.
Any suggestions are much appreciated, and I will respond to your threads in return!
You're a student, not a fucking businessman. If you're worth respecting, then people will respect you.

study a fuck ton
Ask questions in class. but not not a dick load.

make eye contact with people when you talk to them.
study a fuck ton.
get a vibe of you prof and role with them.
Study a fuck ton.
Pick a field where you're naturally talented. Work hard to become skilled. Don't try too hard to fit an image, or spend too much time on superficial ways of getting attention. Just be yourself, be nice to people, and focus on your goals.

Then study and know the material, your fellow students and professor will respect you for that alone. Don't try to be a know-it-all though, and open yourself up to teaching others and sharing your knowledge. Just dress casual or at least in a way that doesn't make you look like a slob.

Ahh, don't be cocky and help others. I feel so guilty about trying to help others in my Thermodynamics class when I did poorly on my final exam - (pulled an all nighter and ate some bad breakfast, so I spent half the time fighting my stomach)
The main goal of studying the material is to understand principles. If you can find a way to convey that to your fellow classmates, you will be respectable.

Oops I mean you should help others while avoiding being cocky.
Find the biggest man on campus and beat the shit out of him
Don't fake that fire in your eyes - people see through that shit. Get that fire from passion and patience and perseverance. As to looking bangin smart, I suggest staying neat, wearing smart casual or full on smart - not suits or people will think youre pretentious. BUT have your own style, your own signature piece, if you will. You'll stand out that way. And pick a good cologne and stick to it - a familiar smell is surprisingly powerful. Treat people good, help them out but dont allow yourself to ever be trod all over or used.
Luck to you, friend.
