be in 12 step program
> tell me it works best if i work the steps with a mentor or "sponsor"
> finally find a sponsor through my roommate
> today sponsor calls and starts getting on to me for things that my roommate coincidentally also takes issue with (caffeine consumption, sleep schedule, social skills, certain mannerisms, to name a few...my roommate's kind of a nosy cunt)
> i'm about to get to the part of the program where i start confessing my personal flaws and wrongdoings to the sponsor
What does /adv/ think? Should I risk having what's really a pretty intimate relationship with this guy or should I start looking for someone else?

Sounds like you need to find another guy...unless you want to deal with this same bullshit constantly.

You're in denial.
The sponsor is just doing his job. He is SUPPOSED to ride you hard, to make sure you get better. A sponsor who went easy on you would not be doing you any favors. If you are resisting already, it does not bode well for your recovery.

It's not an issue of whether I want to follow the sponsors instructions. If there's this relationship between him and my roommate where roomie can just go and whine to him whenever I do something he doesn't like and he listens, that's what I have a problem with. It's manipulative on the roommates part and violates the rule of confidentiality on the sponsor's part.
