I've met some pretty sexy lesbians and some really fucking ugly ones. Sort of like how there are hot and ugly people of all genders and orientations. Lesbians usually don't feel like conforming to beauty standards that appeal to men, and being a femme lesbian is fucking awful so I expect more of us just avoid it for visibility's sake.

Two reasons.

1) The core market for lesbian porn is straight men. It has been pretty much ever since ever since they started producing the stuff: lesbians (and other gender/orientation combinations) simply do not buy the stuff on the same numbers that straight men do. And so, in an attempt to cater to the core market, mpst lesbian porn is produced according to the aesthetic values of straight men. This leads pretty much directly to the second point...

2) Most "lesbians" in lesbian porn are straight: a phenomenon known in the industry as "gay-for-pay". They are as concerned about being attractive to men as other straight women are, and this makes them sought-after as the subjects of lesbian porn.

And there's your reason. Lesbians in real life aren't as hot as lesbians in porn for the same reason that straight women in real life aren't as hot as the straight women in porn: the same people are playing both roles.
