This definitely doesn't deserve it's own thread, but it's a question that I need answered because I can't look at it objectively.
I applied for a contributor position at Clickhole last month and was told I'd hear back from them "by the 15th of March." I got the rejection letter, with no special comment, on the 15th exactly.
Is that a good sign or a bad sign? As on, was I totally forgotten about, was I one of the last to get cut, or did they just keep everyone on hold until the deadline? I need to know just how badly I failed.

>did they just keep everyone on hold until the deadline
yes, this is what companies do
they get nothing from sending out rejections since they may as well keep the option open in case they need it
many companies never send out rejections at all

Ok, wasn't sure. Spent some time on an editorial board and we sent out rejections throughout the process, but thought bigger places did something different. Good to know

the bigger the place the less likely you'll ever even hear back, some job openings get so many applicants that the company wont ever send rejections unless the person calls up, not just email actually calling

Yeah, some of the other places I've looked at say I'll only hear back if they're interested. Guess I'm lucky the onion at least talks to you
