This is my first time posting on /adv/, but I think you guys are the board that I need to ask for a serious answer. Long story short, a couple years ago I put all of my porn in a zip file protected with the password, and now I forgot the password but I need to open it.
So, any advice on opening a password protected zip file without knowing the password?

Who gives a shit. Delete the zip and get new porn.

I would, but that zip also has some nudes of my ex that I can't get back and I'm desperate to open, among many other things that I can't recover.
Forget about it. The only chance you have is that you were so dumb to use a lowercase word that might be in a dictionary. Else, give or take 5-10 years of brute force might yield results.

I can't just forget it. I can't. I've tried several brute force programs, but I still haven't opened it. What are some good ones?
What are you actually trying to open? This doesn't make any sense.
Try /g/.

This might be one of the saddest things I've read on /adv/. It was porn and pictures of a girl who never even thinks about you anymore. It's not like somebody killed your dog in front of you.

Yes, you can. It's over. You're free.
Seriously. If you really want it that badly, use a cracking app and leave it running, but if it still hasn't cracked the password in, say, three days, then you are out of luck. By then all of the easy guesses will be long gone, and you must have used a password too strong for your own good. That could take years to crack open.
Incidentally, /g/ would have been a better place to post this. We certainly have some technical folks here -this is 4chan after all- but it's not our focus.

I went to /g/, and the sticky said "/g/ is for the discussion of technology and related topics.
/g/ is NOT your personal tech support team or personal consumer review site." so I didn't think I should have started a thread there. I think next time I'll use /g/.
What's a good cracking program?

I am trying to open a .zip file that is encrypted with a password that I don't know and I haven't had any luck with other methods I've tried.
Brute force the password.
Use google, here's the first damn result: http://security.stackexchange.com/questions/17774/how-to-recover-a-lost-zip-file-password
If somehow you haven't got enough processing power then rent some (the cloud yo).
