Dress well, don't over do it, just head to men's warehouse and ask them to hook you up with some smart looking casual clothing, the people who work there are pretty good at helping with this in my experience. Seriously take up almost any hobbies, at least a couple and be versed enough in them to make conversation about them, mine are archery, hunting and mixed martial arts, I can talk about those things at length, but don't do so unless asked. Learn verbal judo, it's a technique used by investigators that helps you steer conversations in the direction you want.
