getting into ivy league from high school drop out is extremely hard. I encourage you to try, but realize any top 20 school in CS&E is going to be amazing for you career-wise. You won't really touch much robotics as an undergrad--mostly programming and theory. Is your math strong? If you do go into robotics it's highly likely that you will be recognized--guys have a good eye for porn girls. Honestly it's just something that you'll have to own. Tech is a pretty meritocratic place. There's still a large bias toward men, but I bet some robotic startups would love to employ you if you're good at what you do (and not just what you did)

Op unless youre a math wizard and have great logical and focusing skills(im assuming you dont from your past) you will have a terrible time. Robotics isnt just dicking around with parts and pressing go on a remote. There are long complicated algorithims and lots of math as well.as a very good understanding of the hardware you are working with and the link between hardware and software and lots of hard to understand cases.

Look into programming instead of robitics, its still math and logic based but it isnt as hard as robotics.

Doesn't matter if you're not a genius, nobody really is. If you work hard enough you can do it. Just don't be discouraged, because chances are you have a lot to catch up.

Start learning calculus ASAP, you want to leave highschool with preferably half a year or a year of calculus under your belt.

Start learning code too. Not as important as learning math. But would give you an edge. Python, java, C.

I wouldn't worry at all if you just did photo shoots or amateur stuff.
Also don't be afraid of success, it's not like you'll have a TMZ papparazzi following you for doing robotics stuff. Even if you did, it's very unlikely that people would be able to dig out a couple old videos of a random anonymous porn girl.

Thanks for this, re: owning it. You're right. I don't know why I'm letting this have so much power over my life. I don't think my math is too bad. I've been taking online classes on math and programming through edx and there's obviously a lot to brush up on , but I have found it pretty fun so far. My ideal would be to go to a CC for 2 years, keeping up a good GPA, and then transfer to a better school from there. Im prepared to take a longer route if I have to, as it's harder to get in as a transfer.

Just be prepared for the worst, as in someone one day noticing. If that happens, just be frank about it and shrug it off. It happened, it's in the past, there's nothing you can do about it now. If you don't make a huge fuss about it, neither will anyone else.

Thanks Anon. I want to go into robotics because it fascinates me. More specifically, humanoid robots and AI fascinate me. I'm interested in making a robot seem more alive, and helping to build it up from scratch. I want to make a robot "think", and see it all come together. I think there's so much untapped potential still in how we can use technology to improve the world. I got tired of just appreciating technology, I want to help make it, and I probably watched a bit too much Ghost in the Shell as a kid, desu.
