/adv/, I'm worried about my brother. He broke up recently-ish with his gf and while I expected some grieving, he's acting weird.
For a month now, he's been damned near silent. Yes and No answers only, anything else he just stays quiet. He spends his time working, reading, chopping wood and fixing things about the house. He essentially works all day and sleeps for 4-6 hours. He barely eats, though he isn't exactly starving himself. His expression is vacant 90% of the time.
I understand heartbreak hurts, and I feel for him, but there is a difference between a week of marathoning tv shows in your room eating junkfood and never changing out of your pajamas and becoming a workaholic recluse and destroying your body.
Any ideas? I need male input here.

Personally I found that the first few weeks after my breakup was one of the most productive times at work I've ever had. I work in an office though so it wasn't as easy for me to be a recluse, but I was also staying late almost every day getting shit done by myself. I think it is pretty natural to turn to things that yield more straightforward or logical "rewards" that you might have solving problems at work.
Anyway, it takes time. A month is NOT long enough for you to have any real idea if this is more of a problem than it ought to be.

A week ago, there were cop cars, ambulances, a fire engine, and a swat team a block away from me. They brought in an armored vehicle, and then cleared the street from civilians, so that's all I saw. There wasn't anything on the news about it.
Then today, there's a helicopter flying rounds in the area. It seems like it's focusing around the area where the stuff happened last week.
I don't live in a too shabby area, but it's kind of the border between nice suburbs and the ghettos. None of my neighbors which I spoke to had any idea what it was, I can't find any info online. Does anyone have an idea what this could be? It's unsettling.

I read a theory once that depression was an evolutionary adaptation to overstimulation/stress. It shuts you down to prevent you from reacting strongly and therefore prevent more stress. Laziness could be non-reactiveness in a way. Even to "your own" desires and needs.

Does experience trump GPA when it comes to academic/research based jobs? I just finished up my bachelors and am hoping to get a few more years of lab work in my field to try and increase my chances of getting into a PhD program since my grades were mediocre as fuck but now I'm terrified that they might be so mediocre that I won't even be able to take this step despite doing research in my undergraduate career
Am I freaking out unnecessarily

GPA only matters when getting your first job, then employers won't even fucking look at it ever again.
Though I think that "first job" only counts if it is a real job, that you got on your own merit, and not because it was an internship or part of a class. Basically if you got college credit for it, doesn't count as a real job in the field. You can still use it as reference for your experience, but it's like, experience with training wheels so employers will probably look for other things to judge your worth (like GPA)

I can feel a very disgusting feeling welling up inside me every day. I could get away with ordering almost anything. I'm solely in charge of all the supply room. Me and the Manager are the only one with a key to access it. I'm horrified and thrilled. This is probably a Klepto's dream and I have no fucking idea how to handle this. I know I'll be fired if I talk about it at work. I feel like one day I'm going to do something completely absurd and order like 10 cases of something and say we only ordered 5.
What do I do before I completely do something I can never take back.

my tags and insurance for my car are expired, im working on getting the money to pay for them, but the work that's available is 200+ miles away and a 3 hour drive. while going to work today i got pulled over by highway patrol with one of those tag scanners that has expired tags in a database. he was really cool, only gave me a citation for the expired tags (just have to appear before court and explain why I havent updated them, dont owe any money). He told me if he had decided to write me up for the no insurance, I'd have my license suspended and my car towed, as well as a possible min. fine of $1500. I safely made it back home without getting pulled over again, but I have to make another 200+ mile trip in less than a week or Im not getting the money to take care of this shit.
my question is: should I risk it again? one more trip there and back and it'll be taken care of. There are a couple people i know that might be able to give me a ride there for a good chunk of money, but it's a big maybe. anybody have experience with this?

How do I control my anger issues? I was raised by an abusive father who never knew how to handle any situation other than by raising his voice and cursing. I find myself to be doing the same thing but I don't want to.
What are some good steps for me to take to stop reacting with anger? Any tips and advice are appreciated. Just trying to become a more emotionally mature person.

I don't consider myself particularly great looking, but this girl was.
Basically, I'm out having some drinks and I went out front for a cigarette by myself. I see this girl walking up to the bar entrance with her friends. Next thing I know, she's stood in front of me, asking me for a lighter, even though her friends are all smoking. So I give her a light. Next thing I know, she's firing all kinds of questions at me. If I'm having a good night, if this bar is any good, what my job is, what I study at university, and telling me a bit about herself.
Now, whenever a stranger strikes up a conversation with me my guard's usually up a bit, and as a guy who isn't particularly confident, especially so around an attractive woman. All the time I'm being "cool" and not appearing too keen (inside I'm nervous as ****!) but she's chatting away at me, touching me on the arm, looking me in the eye. The conversation ends when we both finish our cigarettes and I make a quick getaway.
Thoughts? Was she interested in me or just being friendly?

It's a voluntary exchange, just ask, it's your best bet. Your university might have a student jobs board somewhere too, but you should really just ask, especially if you already have some sort of relationship with the professor.

So my Intuis4 Tablet finally shit the bed after a solid 10 years of use . . . and it was a damn good coaster too.
Anyone have recommendations on some products that are suitable for animation? I'm considering upgrading to one of those touch monitors but I'm not willing to paying for a used car.
Would an actual touch display monitor with stylus actually be viable? Or would a traditional tablet just perform even twice as better?

I'm 22, 23 in a few months and I need some advice in regards to my life :]
I am in two minds about finding a job or going back into education, the problem is that I do not know if the current qualifications I do hold are good enough to help me start building a career in IT. I have done much research but finding an answer is really proving to be difficult which is ironic with the internet and all.

BTEC First Certificate in Media

Look up a job you might like to have. What are the required or recommended qualifications? Get them or most of them.
It also doesn't hurt to start now and get some experience. When you've been in the industry for a little while you'll be better able to tell what kind of qualifications you need to get where you want to go.
