I told him I was at work and would not be able to resubmit any assignment and that whatever grade I got, I'd just have to live with. He replied:

"Not only do you fail this assignment, but I'm dropping you a letter grade.

I'm done with you."

Shocked, I just went back to work. Ten minutes later, another email.

"And just think about this - I can ruin you. I can ruin your future. I have nothing to lose - YOU DO."

I don't reply again. I'm just really concerned and uncomfortable.

Again, another email. This time addressed to the entire class.

"So today I received a lot of submissions for the treatment assignment. I did not accept any of them. One among you handled this assignment very poorly and childishly, and as such they will be punished and probably will never amount to anything in this industry."

Yeah, I don't know what to do. I have severe anxiety and a panic disorder. After every class of his, I have a full-fledged panic episode. After all this, though, I had a full-on nervous breakdown, complete with tears, rapid heart beat, and dizziness. I threw up, and wanted to actually kill myself.

Am I being too sensitive, or did this professor cross the line? Did he threaten me? Should I report it to the school, or is that a no-no? Is this just how college is? Because someone is tenured, they can get away with shit like this?

One more point: this is a required first-semester-in-this-program class. If I drop it, I get kicked from the program, and delay my graduation by a full year.

Seems highly unprofessional but I have no knowledge of how professors operate. He seems like asshole even if you report it I doubt they would fire him just talk to him which would in turn Piss him off and target you more

This is extremely unusual and unprofessional. Print out your emails with the professor and with yellow highlighter highlight the following:

With these in hand I would go to your guidance counselor or student resources or whatever and flat out tell them you feel extremely threatened by your professor's emails which are extremely unprofessional.

I want you to realize these things that will help you accomplish this; this girl is a stranger. She is no one to you at this point in time and you are no one to her. Now take out the sex you want from your head and just make small talk shit about the weather or classes or SOME boring shit. This is how the gauging test begins with social interractions. You throw pointless shit at each other seeing how the other reacts. You try to make aqcuaintances or friends with people before you get any closer. You have to see if it's a person you want to get closer to.

So just shut the fuck up, sit down and say something about class or some shit. I mean introduce yourself, but don't make it some big fucking deal. OP, I'm here to tell you that everything is going to work itself out.

First things first. You have to be a good role model for your siblings. I don't know how much they look up to you, but you need to make a visible change in yourself, and you need to be there for them. When your parents hit you or are abusive, you need to look at your siblings and calmly say, this isn't the way to act. "This isn't normal." They're older, but people in those age groups are still impressionable.

You also need to get a job and your own place. You need to seek it proactively. Just between us anons, get out there and start looking!

It's funny, looking back, I always thought that I had a pretty normal childhood. But once I got out of my parents house, and started making connections in the real world, I found out that things were a lot different.

Don't worry about moving to another state with your gf. Get a job, save money, don't EVER, (AND I FUCKING MEAN IT), let your parents know about your financial situation. Save up a couple months worth of paychecks, and get your own apartment.

Then, once things have settled, you can move on from there.

Thank you for the advice. The issue with telling my siblings that it isn't normal is that my parents take that as me "inciting a rebellion" and they get worse and bring them into it, despite the fact that my brother is 16, old enough to think for himself.

I had a job offered to me by a computer repair place recently, they told me I'd have an interview and I have a very high percent chance of getting hired just because I'm always available. My dad, for some reason, just refuses to believe it. He still holds it over my head that I failed a college class recently and am taking a semester off to think about what I want to do with my life.

My diagnosis is dysthymia, much like yours. Antidepressants have not made me a different person.

Nor are they supposed to. If you ever come to suspect that they are, then either you've gkt a very badly matched medication for your condition, or your dose is too high. Either way, if this happens, you need to switch, and any decent doc would recognize that

I'm dysthymic with some cyclothymic traits (mood swings, basically, or bipolar lite), and my meds have not made me a different person either. They're supposed to be quite subtle.

My moods have improved. I am sometimes productive and sometimes passionate, although I'm still a lazy procrastinator at heart. But I don't hate myself for it as much as I once did.

I also credit therapy, despite a disinclination to like therapy (I tried, didn't connect with, and quit therapists after a few sessions half a dozen times). My last guy finally helped me out, and I stuck with it for a couple of years before I quit.
