Well, buying expensive things for a hobby that you're a begginer at is doomed to ruin the experience for you.
Here's my life: I like playing the guitar and driving cars. My guitar is a cheap, hand-me-down 6 string acoustic guitar, and the only thing I've bought for it is a capo and a few sets of strings. That's it. Buying some expensive electric guitar isn't going to make me Eddie Vanhalen. It will just make me be a guy playing Wonderwall on a guitar that Eddie Vanhalen would play. I don't feel pressured into playing because I paid $5000 on equipment. I spent less than $100 on the hobby and play for fun.
And as for cars, I bought a classic car. It's fun to drive and requires learning about cars to work on it. I'm not worried about the depreciating value of the car, getting into an accident, or parking it. It costed me $1000 and everytime I go somewhere with it, it turns heads and people ask me about it. You don't get that with a brand new Porsche or a Corvette. And I know I'm having more fun with my car than those 40+ year old men who spent $100k+ on a convertable that they drive maybe 10 times a year.
As for spending a lot of money, I think about a purchase for at least a month, and rarely buy stupid shit I'm not going to end up using.
Don't take my anecdote as telling you not to spend money on your hobbies, but don't think spending a ton of money on a hobby is going to make you good at it or make you enjoy it.

im a guitar teacher so i have learned how to speak kid language. 1 on 1 most people in general are cool, but i think it would take me a while to build up to teach a class of 30+ and be comfortable

however i also do delivery driving and sometimes ill have to go to a highschool which still makes me uncomfortable. something about the energy of it when all the kids are walking around puts me back into the mindset i had when i was there and i hate it
