I'm thinking about switching majors. My major is CompSci, but I absolutely hate discrete math. I don't get it at all. I don't know how important it is though, but it seems to be important when making algorithms?
If I were to get a job programming how much discrete math would I use? How difficult is the average CS job?

How to seduce a qt who's not in any of my classes or clubs?
just ask her out man
when/where do you see her if she's not in your classes or clubs?
>>17947734
She works at the desk at the campus library, where I study fairly often. I've only seen her walking around campus a couple of times.
Just to clarify, I don't exactly know her, I've just grown to find her and her mannerisms really cute whenever I take a break from working. People don't just approach strangers like that typically, do they? And trying to chat her up at the library sounds stupid since she's working.
so hi. i just got back from the gym and am supposed to feel super awesome and happy because yay endorphins and i'm such a fucking badass holy shit! but i'm sad instead. feel like i'm losing my best (only) friend, and i'm still so insanely jealous of her. we're at the gym and of course just like every fucking time some hot guy has to come up and start chatting her up ("omg your tattoos are cool!") while i stand there being awkwardly invisible. and there's other stuff too. life is hard a lot of the time.

I'm 33 and live at home with parents who are retired and on a pension; from what I understand if I want to go to college it will practically all be paid for since I do not work but my question is how much money am I allowed to have in my own personal bank account (savings/checking) before they say we can't give you the full amount to pay for school?
I can't find any actual figures of what's too much to have saved
>>17947720
I am actually experienced on this, it doesnt matter. I went to apply for the pell grant and in the fafsa said i had $90,000+ and i still got the full amount. It has no effect on the money you recieve.

Not OP, but is this really the case? I'm 35 and make about 40k a year and going back to school. I have to take about a year of community college classes before I can transfer to a state school for computer science. I can pay for the CC classes on my own since they're dirt cheap, but once I get to state school it's going to be about 10k a year. I can really expect to have this completely covered by aid? I was expecting to have 20-30k of loans.
>>17947792
I just graduated from a state school in California and my entire tuition and (almost) all of my rent was covered. I had to become a TA to make ends meet but that was easy.

Yes. Expect the following:
>massive debt from student loans
>always earning less than other coworkers your same age, since you started late
>women won't like you as much, since you are earning less than your peers, damaging their attractiveness towards you
>the list goes on
Do literally all Americans expect everyone to have decided their dream career at age 18 straight after high school and graduated at 22?
Im 24 and I just figured out what I wanted to do and just started studying for it. I literally don't understand this meme. Why is there such a rush for Americans?

According to http://www.landlordlawblog.co.uk/2010/04/10/tenants-notice-to-leave-at-the-end-of-the-fixed-term/ , I legally do not have to give notice that I am leaving a property at the end of the contract period, and the landlord is not legally allowed to place or enforce such a stipulation in the contract.
I am in the position of trying to leave my current property, with the agency I rent with saying I need to give them 6 weeks notice if i'm not going to renew at the end of the contract, meaning I now have to stay in this shithole until the 20th of feb.
Is the baove link correct? I've read through the The Unfair Terms in Consumer Contracts Regulations 1999 but can't really see a section that would be a smoking gun for me in this matter.
http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1999/2083/contents/made
Anyone have any experience with anything like this?
>>17947662
>meaning I now have to stay in this shithole until the 20th of feb.
But you'd have to stay until the end of your lease anyway...?
>>17947662
1. How long is your lease?
2. When did it start?
3. Is there anything in your lease which stipulates notice periods for given situations?
4. If you do not give notice, what (if anything) does your lease say you have to pay/forfeit?
At the end of the day, if you signed an agreement where you agreed to give a period of notice, you'll have to do so or face whatever financial sanction the agreement stipulates.
>>17947671
End of my contract is for 3 months, ending 2nd of feb
>>17947702
1. Contract period was 3 months, specified to end on 01/02/2017 in the contract itself
2. 02/11/2016
3. My contract states that if I don't intend to renew my contract "on expiry of this license", I must give them 6 weeks notice
4. The contract says nothing about getting more money out of me, but the agency has told me by email they would expect payment for the month of Feb.
Additionally, that's not what I've heard from either the other landlord I spoke to today or from landlord blogs online (as linked in the OP), which is why I am trying to find if this is indeed stated in any legislation.
You are not able to enforce part of a contract that is unlawful by nature.

Whats a good way for me to find a roommate who wont murder me?
I been put into a situation where I can no longer live with the person I am with now. I have until March 23rd to be out of here.
Financially I cannot afford to be on my own and currently all my friends are stuck in a lease of their own or wont become remotely available till months later.
So whats the safest way I can find a roomie? What should I know or not know? Is there a way I can filter out crazy people? Has anyone had any experience having a stranger live with them?
>>17947558
Every time I've had roommates it always lead to disaster. I tried moving out with my friend and his gf. Within a month they break up lol. I tired moving out with coworkers who happened to be dating. Within a month, they started being impudent.
Honestly, it's better to live alone. Try to increase your income. Take a second job, or find a better job.

Yeah I lived with one of my best friends and my now ex (reason why I am leaving) and that was really hard to live with my friend but granted hes not the best at being a human being.
I make good money its just I make a 380 car payment thats really killing me. And most decent places around me are at like 850+ which dosnt include internet or the water.
I heard roomates . com is a good place to look.

not everyone is crazy, but it takes alot of legwork. craigslist works, you just need to screen carefully. How the ad is written or how someone talks on the phone usually gives you a good idea if they are crazy or not. Always meet at a neutral populated place and talk to the person. Educated, nerdy professional types are best. Still it is usually always better to live alone if possible.

hi /adv/
my family's phones have the same 6/10 numbers; the area code plus the middle 3.
today, within an hour, each of us received a call from similar numbers. the area code and middle 3 numbers, then various numbers for the last 4.
none of them were from the family or numbers we recognized, and I was on my commute home so no one was able to answer. we're finding it pretty odd and the younger ones are a little spooked.
would anyone be able to shed some light? my brother and I were thinking spam bots.

My mind is blended on what to say anymore. First match on Tinder that I've bothered with, since she messaged me first.
What the fuck do you normally talk about? Like my mind is immediately just questions like "What do you do?" or some generic "Tell me about yourself" but I really don't know. I'm used to talking like this on first dates, I've only had tinder for a few weeks so I'm not sure how to navigate online conversations like this.

I'm not sure why, but my boyfriend will only eat chicken tenders, and nothing else, and that's not an exaggeration. If he can't get chicken tenders, he will do stuff like get chicken parmesan which is basically the same thing-and only eat the chicken, or just sit there and not eat at all. It's becoming a problem because I'll occasionally want to eat something else with him, but I'm not sure how to handle it. Any suggestions /adv/?

What's the point in pursuing a new skill, taking up a new sport, or whatever in your 20s and older?
It's been proven that if you actually want to be good at anything, (programming, sports, music), you absolutely must start when you're like 5.
The 20s are the prime of your life, physically. Nobody gives a fuck about a balding 30 something doing quite literally anything. It's not impressive when you're 35, 42, 55. It's impressive when you're 18. When you win at 28.
Am I wrong?
While you're right that to be great at something you have to start it young, I feel like you're missing quite a big factor: enjoyment.
Sure, nobody gives a fuck if a 30 year old started a new sport, but if the 30 year old enjoys it very much, and gets something out of seeing improvement, then surely it is not a waste of time.
Much better than trying nothing new by the time you're 20, anyway...
A lot of famous people only started the career they were known for later on in their lives. Van Gogh is a prime example of this. he only really started painting in earnest after he was 30.
I'm the child of my mother's second marriage, and my father's third marriage. Both of my parents are quite old. But both of them have completely turned around their lives or tried completely new things that they are now getting recognition for at over 50/60.
It's never too late. Only people who are younger than 30 think that life ends at 30.
Technique isn't everything, you can still move people and make them feel something without being a virtuoso.
Maybe you won't impress people, but honestly who cares if you play the piano like Jordan Rudess ?
You can still convey meaning in what you do. One could argue that conveying meaning is a skill, but i wouldn't be so sure, we all have something touching to say that will resonate with somebody else.
Mediums are just that, a way to express yourself and to communicate with others. It's always worthwile.
Sorry, i don't know if what i said is very applicable to domains such as sport or programming, but that's my stance on arts in general.
