Well there's a number of reasons why someone could be popular. Most often it's just because they're attractive and possess good social skills. You can develop social skills with practice if you'd like, they're very useful and can help you achieve a lot in this world. You can also make yourself more attractive with exercise, self care, and wardrobe.
Really though if you want my personal opinion, you should focus less on how to be "popular" and more on how you can learn to build meaningful relationships with people. Nothing wrong with having associates, but you will get the most social satisfaction out of people who you've grown so close to that they feel like extensions of your family. You're only eighteen. You'll be graduating high school soon and most of those people will disappear anyway.
