just finished mine, deperession. Yeah it's a good idea. A lot of what was helpful was just getting to say it out loud and self realizing a lot of the issues once you do actually articulate the issues and reasons.

Don't go in expecting much, just ask instead. Most shrinks focus on a problem-> solution basis, meaning you aren't gonna get a bunch of wierd ink blot tests or anything like that. It will mostly be:

etc.

They might suggest some ideas but most of it will be exploring your thoughts and helping you stayed focused along the way instead of fall into the vague "shit is fucked and i suck" void.

The only way to stop hating yourself is to improve yourself. Whatever you dislike about yourself isn't going to change overnight. I'm assuming you've spent literal years inside your own head telling yourself negative things. Find something progressive to do in your life. Go to the gym, start reading intellectual material every night before bed etc. Do things that will improve you, because you will like those improvements and in turn become more confident, etc.

I am very soft-spoken and it was hard getting people to answer me at first. Don't know if that's your case but people would ignore/not hear me until I started working on presenting myself better, make sure it's clear you're walking up to them, greeting them, then speaking clearly and loudly. It may be cheesy but just practice in front of a mirror or at the counter when buying smth - talk about the weather

Stop trying to make small talk in class. Do many extracurricular activities then start dropping the ones you don't like/don't fit in but spend your free time OUTSIDE your dorm/home never inside. Study, eat, take walks or just sit OUTSIDE

Being ugly isn't your problem, it's how you act and behave. Plenty of ugly men and women make it socially.
