I paid for it when it first came out - the first and last time I've ever paid for early access. I felt I got my money's worth, though. /v/ and the like got pretty mad about stuff but it didn't tick me off much.

The full game is not too bad, though there are definitely some things that are... less than optimal. Progression is no longer so clear as it used to be, for instance. Difficulty is a bit wonky, though not out of control or anything. The wikis are totally out of date so there's no useful help if you don't know how something works. I focused heavily on defeating the penguin boss for a while at the start, for instance, because he used to drop a molten core that upgraded your crafting stations. Now his defeat just lets you hire mercs and he's been upgraded difficulty wise. I didn't realize you upgraded the crafting tables for a while and spent forever trying to find the EPP Augment merchant before realizing you can now just craft the augments. You just need an upgraded crafting item to make it.

Most of my frustration just comes from old experience getting in the way of the current state of the game. I keep expecting things to be like when I more or less gave up playing the beta but they're quite different now. In a good way for the most part.

Still, I kill my way through a prison full of escaped convicts and most of them are cute girls and I just think to myself, "What a fucking waste." Makes me wish capture balls worked on people so I could just keep them all safe in sexy, sexy slavery. Or just go out and capture all the girls in a village or city.

I really like the crew mechanic, though. It's a ton of fun and more or less what I always modded in in older versions. NPC's following me around adventuring with me.

It'll be really good once the mods hit. If Overwhored hadn't taken off I would have been modding starbound instead.

It is for me because this genre of games is my favorite. I like games like Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft, Terraria, etc where you explore and craft and build. I particularly like games like that where you can also build communities of NPC's.

Most of my work will be done long before Home Invasion's art is, so I'll be able to do some prep work on other stuff, at least. Because they need to eat and I can't pay them enough every month for them to work for me exclusively. I only recently hit $2700. I have three artists for Home Invasion. Even if I had been making this amount of money from the start and divided the money four ways (one for me, one for each artist) everyone would make a grand total of... $675 a month. That isn't even rent. They have no choice. That said I do get some special priority because I hire consistently and have a perfect reputation for payment and as a client. If things were otherwise it'd be even slower.

As it is I do everything EXCEPT art, including telling the artists what to draw. So I take most of the money and usually spend about $500-$1k a month on the art.

That's what I did with Overwhored and people complained about art style changes. So I'm trying for consistency this time but I'm still dividing the work. One does pencils, one does ink and one does color. It's faster than it would be if one person did everything (unless they were working full time). I use Sleepymaid for the chibis because they're very quick and easy to make and only cost about $30 a character. A full picture with the normal method can cost around $35+ for the pencils, $45+ for the ink, and $65+ for the color. Costs can be lower but in practice they're usually higher.. There's a saying. "Quality, price, speed. Pick two." That's what you can get. I'm paying for quality but not enough to get fast quality. I get quality and price. It may not seem like it but industry professional artists will charge upwards of $200 a picture.

It is slow, but at least I'll be pumping out something that's high quality. I don't want anyone to feel ripped off. Once I have Sleepymaid as a primary artist for future projects however this will no longer be an issue. It'll mostly be down to whether or not I can force myself to pump out a novel length story in a few months as well as do everything else on a project.

Frustrating speed issues aside I'm learning quite a bit about making VN's. Oddly enough I don't think a full length VN would be any more difficult to make. Spread out the primary CG's and it's mostly down to doing more writing. I may just make the horror movie monstergirl dating sim VN something that can go on steam with a special optional mod to make it fully adult.

At the moment, I'm in the very beginning stages of learning how to code with the intention of making a sim/trainer game since the genre has been taking off and some of the ones I have played have inspired me. I won't try and be an 'ideas guy' and talk up what I have in mind, though, since anything like that is either far off or-assuming the worse as is reasonable with someone at the stage I'm at-won't happen due to me giving up.

To ensure that I do not-or rather, to help me get a good start-what language would be best for making something that is mostly intended to be text based and run in a browser? I picked up a few books and am doing an online course type thing. The course covers C# but I've been told and read that once you've learned one programming language, grasping others isn't as complicated since most languages have a lot in common. I was pointed in the direction of both Twine and Javascript. I know Twine isn't a language but instead a program to help make text adventure-type games. Would picking up Javascript be a good choice for what I have in mind?

Also, before the subject of 'why text-based' comes up, it's because I can't draw for shit and don't currently have the money to commission anything, particularly for a project that isn't even a project yet.

Start with learning an actual framework designed to make VNs. I'm not pissing on you, this is serious advice from someone who's done dev work with Ren'Py and paying day job work with HTML/CSS/JavaScript.

NW.js/Node.js/RPG Maker are selling you a shallow learning curve but at the expense of bloat, weak crossplat support, and impenetrable limits on audiovisual effects ultimately governed by what the W3C thinks a web browser needs to be able to do.

If you only want to make short freeware games, that's fine, but for commercially releasable software there's a reason why Ren'Py is the framework of most VNs on Steam.

Also, pic related. The average sweaty, obese 14 year old girl Ren'Py game dev with a Windows PC who releases Win/Lin/Mac builds of "NOTICE ME SENPAI" doesn't fuck this up, because *her* SDK warned her never to open/repack the build zips it generates for other OSes.

You're in great company: the mongoloid Unity "dev" who produced the Momcest Trainer demo made exactly the same mistake you did with his Mac release.

Oh, on the subject of Unity: Momshit Trainer.app, incomplete with a handful of BGs, one or two character sprites, costume overlays and limited music tracks, clocks in at 2.39 GIGABYTES. The Ren'Py game it's openly ripping off, Princess Trainer Gold Edition, has far more content, runs just as smoothly if not moreso, and is only 678 Mb unpacked. Katawa Shoujo Is Not A Game, the cripple fucking simulator, has at least twice the assets your game needs and is a mere 520 Mb. Unless you've secretly got plans to make Ho Insertion a zombie killing FPS with realtime 3D animation, Unity's overkill for VN development.

You can change now or later, but in the long run you're fucking yourself to limit yourself to web technology to make VNs.

It's about a guy who gets invited into some luxurious party of one ofthe women you see there, and he tries to bang this woman and a few of these other ones. (Not all of them, you see there)
To do so, you must win several card mini games which are kind of frustrating and boring.
Besides that there's not much content or choice. You got free navigation around the villa, where you find where each woman is, you win the card games and see an image of you having sex with her with a little description text.
You'll be bored of it after a few hours even if you haven't beaten it yet.
