Unity basically just manages assets and sets scenes (camera, lighting and so on). Models, textures and everything have to be made outside of it.
The games logic you can add to objects, etc. is done in C#, Boo or UnityScript.
UnityScript is almost the same as JavaScript, Boo is based on Python and C# is more powerful than either of those.
Unity is essentially a real game engine, more like what studios actually use (Cry went open source, so if you want to see what working with a AAA engine is, take a look at that).
RenPy does what it does really well and is open source, so you can even alter core files, but it's still meant to create 2D games.
