not that Capcom's ever been clear on what she's got in her shorts, and they change their minds constantly on the issue
although Poisin with a pussy pics are actually not as common
as I recall, he said pre-op in Japan, post-op in US, but that position has since changed to "let the individual decide" IE the same no-answer that every Japanese game dev gives for unexplained plot points.
I can't even find consistent source son what she was designed as. Some say she was "newhalf" from the start, others say she was female but changed over Capcom US objecting to violence against women- which was silly because Double Dragon had Linda and no one griped, and because saying she's transgendered doesn't much matter if she looks female. Calling her a crossdresser also doesn't work because she has visible watermelon tits.
Then there's Roxy. I don't think they've ever explained her. I've heard "male crossdresser" and "100% female" answers on her, seems they've put so much effort into Poison that they didn't bother with the recolor.
....and Poison Kiss from Mighty Final Fight is a 100% female totally separate character form either of them. If that game even counts as canon.
and I'm aware the "newhalf" designation showed up in game design docs even before the US release but Capcom US still replaced her. If they were there form the start or added later, I have no idea. Even the "experts" can't seem to say for certain and the creator isn't saying.
Funny how so much online discussion pops up for this one side character's genitals, when she'd have been a minor footnote character otherwise.
>do not ask me who the blonde is, I don't know
that's probably why they don't officially say one way or the other.
Nobody outside Japan even knew Poison was supposed to be a transwoman until the internet made accessibility to Japanese manuals and guides much easier to foreign player. The proof comes from that one US-developed Final Fight spinoff which had Poison characterized as a female.
She was only replaced in the SNES and GBA version. Poison was still in the arcade and Sega port.
Do we NEED to have this argument whenever poison's posted? Whatever her dick status when she was created, she's pretty much officially a tranny now and has been for a long damn while.
Nice fives though.
Poison's got a dick, always did, still does, it's canon, fuck the haters.
Only REAL mystery about Poison is how she can tuck her business away in those tiny denim shorts, yet always keeps from falling out or pinching something when she fights...
er… not that I often think about a post-fight Poison, all flushed and sweaty from exertion and the rush of victory, suddenly getting an embarassed flush on her face as she realizes she spent half the fight with her sexy-parts falling out of her shorts…
have some peachy poison. or poisonous peach
This documentary is really good, and I don't doubt its validity, however the guy does leave out a lot of counter evidence. An anon did his own documentary thing on her at one point and brought up a lot of counter points. She is listed as a woman in many different japanese books, and certain creators have differing opinions about her gender. The documentary cites the artwork of one of the artists. I honestly don't care either way, but after seeing both sides I kind of understand why people argue so much over it. It is vague.
No one is arguing she's trangendered.
Her op status is what's not canon. Capcom flip-flips on the issue a lot. She identifies as female, has tits and curves, but whether she tucks or had the surgery done isn't defined.
Sigh. Poison and Roxy are girls and were always girls in the Japanese version of Final Fight. However, in the American version they're men because I guess the US branch of Capcom didn't want any depictions of violence against women.
