Probably my favourite character in F/SN. Always liked "normal" characters that keep up with superpowered assholes by sheer effort and skill, and he's the closest thing to "normal" you get with a servant. He's not a "real" Servant in the sense that he wasn't summoned from the Throne of Heroes. Rather, he's a ghost who was magicked up because of his combat capabilities and his relationship to the Ryuudo temple. He's also the being who is closest to the fictional Sasaki Kojiro, but ultimately he's the ghost of someone else playing the role of Sasaki.

If he had gone around kicking ass or taking other actions that would have gotten his existence recorded in the Throne, he would be a top-tier servant. Unfortunately as badass of a swordsman as he was, he was simply a farmer and was never recorded as a heroic spirit.

Honestly he probably could classify as Grand Saber, considering he can literally replicate the Second Magic simply through physical ability, and without using any sort of magic or sorcery. I don't believe we've ever seen another character in the franchise who's demonstrated a similar feat. So in terms of sheer skill, if nothing else, he's a better swordsman than any other in Fate setting.

Still, it's not going to happen. And memes already managed to make him the greatest Dragon Slayer in history, so Sasaki might just have to live with that.

Whether he existed or not didn't matter, Medea couldn't summon him. A servant summoning another servant is already faulty, the closest she could get was stuffing a random ghost haunting the temple into a servant mold to take on the role of a known hero. Closest she could get was also making the gate into his master, the entire thing was backwards.

A real may or may not exist, he might even be a phantom unqualified to be a true heroic spirit, but he wasn't going to be summoned here.

All grail wars are an imitation of the original servant summoning where the world itself summoned the seven strongest guys to repel an alien threat to the world. Zelretch or someone watched this and thought "I can use this", so he passed down that knowledge to a few magus.
