They're not being explicit about it. The event features the author, but also the major (still living) seiyuu from the OVA's, so they're at least paying some homage to the old series.
The about page mentions a 'new history of LoGH', mentions both the novels and the prior anime adaptations (OVA, movies) in the introduction text and adds a story outline that sounds about right for the beginning of the novels.
It sounds like they're adapting the novels again and not just remaking the OVA's, it remains to be seen how much of the OVA's interpretation they keep.
The fact that they don't mention the manga (new or old) might encourage people who don't want to see its style adopted for the new anime.

LoGH is best when it's about both sides of a conflict, not just one (and especially not just whiny Reinhard complaining that life doesn't always automatically go his way). The story that you just posted just sort of fizzles out without any real resolution.
