Has anyone else noticed that each of the Straw Hats' names up until Brook have only 2 syllables? Lu-ffy, Zo-ro, Na-mi, etc.
Depending on how the Japanese pronounce Brook (Broo-ku?), he might have 2 syllables as well.
I wonder if Oda did that on purpose, so the audience remembers the names more easily. You know, because One Piece appeals to the lowest common denominator

But San-ji are still only 2 syllables. "n" is a separate hiragana/katakana character, but it is not a separate syllable. A syllable needs to have at least one vowel in it. Same with Ro-bin and Jin-bee.

Oda planned some elements but others are improvised. He probably intended Sanji to have a family that would have been relevant in a following arc but never decided the details (the sentai theme of the brothers for example) until he got to the arc in which he included them.

Zoro's Santoryu style is superior to Mihawk's sword style.

This is why Mihawk exclaimed when Zoro used his ultimate technique, and why Zoro was able to defeat a legion of Humandrills which had perfectly mastered Mihawk's sword style sans Haki.

If Zoro had haki at Baratie and it was comparably strong to Mihawk's he would have beaten him.

Yeah,things like North Blue or marines not having his photo are perfect examples of stuff that can get somewhere but doesn't really have to, as in the first one explaining Noland and int second th two gags we had from it were enough of a justification. If the one destroyed photo he found during the ship exploration was to somehow tie into the plot, some people would also claim it was all planned.

Oda can also always go somewhere with Nami's or Franky's parents. Or anything with Zoro due to us only knowing him training in one dojo when it comes to his life pre-departure.

What's the reference (I don't know HnK).

I don't know how much of it was planned, but I think Oda would hint abuse somewhere if it was there from the beginning. And it really doesn't resolve anything in regards to Sanji's character aside of showing why he didn't have any family to return to, it wasn't carefully placed into some existing character arc or whatever. I'm not saying nothing was planned here, just that it could just be Oda using some hooks he's left the way or only having some vague idea initially.
