Crime and Punishment is an excellent book in its own right, paced very well and without unnecessary detraction from the core subject matter. It's a story about one man in a hopeless situation losing and then regaining his humanity. Fair enough if it's not what you look for in Dostoevsky but it's flatly disingenuous to call it a pile of shit and attempt to condense the plot down to three lines in a poor attempt at a strawman.
